Dave Schultz In Flyers Hall Of Fame

Recommended Posts

I saw this in the Flint Journal recently. Dave "The Hammer" Schultz, the Flyers tough guy of the 70s, was recently inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall Of Fame.

There is a photo gallery and video of the induction speech here.

Afterward, the PA announcer sent Schultz to the penalty box, where he watched the rest of his induction after he gave his speech.

He was the one us Habs fans loved to hate, but you'd have to admit, the whole thing was very funny, and classy at the same time.

LOL

Those were the days. In addition to following the Habs, at the time I enjoyed following the Flyers because they were my "hometown" team and they actually had some talented players (MacLeish, Parent, Ashby, Dupont) and of course the "dirty" players (Schultz, Clarke, Saleski). And I was a kid and didn't know any better. LOL It was a team with a lot of different characters. Even Gene Hart, the broadcaster, was a character.

I'll never forget those Dave Schultz vs. Terry O'Reilly fights. Well there many others too. LOL

Clarke was "dirty", but he had talent to match his hard-nosed style. And I remember Bill "Cowboy" Flett. Good and tough as nails, and a cowboy in real life. He wrote a book about his career called "Cowboy On Ice". And let's not forget about another very talented player, Reggie Leach.

And who will ever forget the Schultz-Larry Robinson fight after Schultz nailed John vanBoxmeer? I can still remember watching that fight like it was yesterday, with my grandpa.
