Die-Hard-Hab
I heard this rumor but i cant remember where so delete it if you want but I didn't see Gomez get hurt and CLS is coming to town on tuesday. Seems a little fishy to me. I would do this deal because you are getting good size at centre and unloading a huge contract so its a win win. Die-Hard-Hab
It was Tony Marinaro on the Team 990, not sure if he is reliable but i thought id post it.
gracie12
Ive heard it on a few sites now so I think its safe to leave and we havent had any interesting rumors from "moderately real" sources for a while. That said, after 6 years of Gainey, I highly doubt we'll know about any potential deals before they happen. Also, I would be VERY surprised to see Gomez or any of the UFA additions moved this early. (Maybe Gill as he seems to be the only guy not quite working out, but even then, there's questions about his health & whether he was playing hurt.) I also think that while it would make sense for Columbus (they lack anyone even close to a true #1 centre) im not sure it makes sense for us. Sure we lost a big contract, but who is going to be our #1 centre? Will Plekanec be able to continue his current pace? Especially with all the checking previously directed at Gomez now gone? Will Pleks resign with us? Will any of the top end centres scheduled to be UFA this summer make it to the open market? If we move Gomez, there's a very real chance we start next season with Lapierre and Maxwell competing for our #1 spot.
Habsessed
I only saw this rumour on hockeybuzz where it was dismissed by "sources" as not having anything truth to it.
Bean-Counting-Hab
Wow, didn't realize Umberger is almost a $4M cap hit. Would take some number crunching before deciding to ahead with this deal and you would have to absolutely make sure Plek was resigned, otherwise there is a big chance you have NO #1 center option for next year. That having been said, it seems unlikely Gomez would be moved so soon after being acquired.
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Yeah, both Umberger and Vermette are signed to cap hits of $3.750 million. What would be the point to unloading Gomez just to pickup two players who aren't as good being paid basically the same thing in total? Nothing! That's what. No deal. Die-Hard-Hab
ok Gomez Cap hit $7.357 Umberger cap hit $3.750 Vermette cap hit $2.763 So Umberger's and Vermete's cap = 6.513 We would be clearing cap so we could sign pleks. We are getting 2 for 1 and we are getting size in return. Umberger is 6'2" 220lbs and Vermette is 6'1" 200lbs Vermette is locked up for 5 years and Umberger for 2. This seems like the trade we need to start clearing cap space and get some size down the middle and some more scroing. Now i know we just got Gomez this off season and it played a crucial part in getting Gionta and Camms but this would make our team better which is the name of the game. ChiLla
I'm still having nightmare's of umberger Yeah, I remember that guy too. He scored what... 8 goals in 5 games against us? I also remeber his S% being ridiculously high ... a combined 40 percent or something along those lines... A true nightmare

Sits down. Has a glass of water. 2 Advil. More water. Realizes this trade likely won't happen. Feels better and resumes posting...} Based on your nightmarish scenario, I hope BG wouldn't entertain trading Gomez until at Pleks is signed, or he gets a legit 1st line center in return somehow. I would like to see Gomez play at least a full year before we evaluate.

Kid-Canada_mtl
Note that Vermette and Umberger have 16 and 13 pts respectively. And Gomez has 11 and has played one more game and is usually on the top line. On pace for 39 points baby!! Columbus wouldnt take this deal unless you gave them extra prospects/draft picks. Salming01
I don't want to cause any waves, but Gomez has 11 points, 2 goals 9 assists. He's projected for 8 goals and 34 assists and 42 points. At 7.5 million we're really good if we can just give him away for 32 Sandow SK practice jerseys, or 64 Sherwood PMP 5030's. Hell, I'd trade him for a Klondike bar and a bowl of poutine. Get Pleks signed and encourage players (french or english) to want to play for Montreal. BGIES
No deal! You can't just judge Gomez based on his stats. He really does add a lot to the team. I'm glad we have Gomez. I doubt there is any truth to this rumour. Gomez is the reason why Gionta signed with our team. If we lose Gomez, Gionta will want to leave as well. We have a legitimate first line in Montreal. Gomez is a great play maker and he needs to be on a line with goal scorers. If we can find a way to get Vermette that would be great,k but not for a top line player like Gomez. Rondalsf
There is no way he is going to be traded unless it's a "blockbuster". Love him or hate him he just got here. Myself I haven't been crazy about his play. Remember his price tag - who would trade for him? ( oh yeah Bob did).

lohsnotiCk
I don't see much of either really, especially his supposed playmaking. how about his ability to skate and handle the puck at the same time... im pretty sure we dont have many players who can actually do that right now besides our top line, pleks and andrei so he does bring a lot of skill and experience to our line up but with that being said he certainly doesnt live up to his contract. not many players can

And your point is? Crosby is on pace for 78 points. Does anyone actually believe he'll finish the year that low? I don't see much of either really, especially his supposed playmaking. Its tough because a playmaker is only as good as his finisher & while Gionta & Cammy have both been playing well, there have been LOTs of missed opportunities too. But no excuses, Gomez has had a rough start, but I still would like to give him more time before I move him for 2 overpaid 2nd liners.

I simply don't see him setting anyone up. As for finishers, he has had the benefit of the best wingers all year, and their finishing skills have been fine I think. Gionta slipped lately but Cammy has been solid. I wouldn't trade him at this point either, I think it would make the team look foolish, plus I think he should get a full year to see what happens.
