habulator
I hate to see Lats go, there is I think a chance this guy will fool a lot of people. At the same time I'm ecstatic with the acquisition of Pouliot, he was the guy I wanted in Price's spot. Now, if Ben can just fulfill some of that potential. SteenIsThaFuture
More upside potential for the Habs, but Gui is a better player, smells like selling low I don't like this trade. Like Pouliot was a 4th overall, but he's been a huge bust, unless the Habs plan to rebuild and give him ice time and a chance to develop, this wasn't a good deal for MTL. It might be selling low, but Pouliot clearly has a pedigree that was detected when he was drafted. He might not have realized that potential yet, but who in Minnesota's system has? Besides Mikko? I like this acquisition and am excited to see what kind of a player Pouliot will become in Montreal. Could simply be a swap of two struggling players. charles@conceptsfisher.com
Here's Hockey's Future analysis of Benoit Pouliot "Pouliot is a very talented player who has yet to put it all together at the pro level. An explosive skater with a good handle on the puck and a hard, accurate shot, he has the tools to be a top-line forward in the NHL. Questions about his attitude, commitment to playing defense and consistency have dogged him since turning pro however. If he can master the mental side of the game and learn a more disciplined approach to the game, he could be a top talent. If not, he could find himself playing in Europe." Stajan1
this can be win-win for both teams. Lats gets to play on a team that has no offense and may be looking for some gritty scoring and pouliot may just finally get some 2nd or maybe even 1st line ice time. but it could be win-lose as pouliot could be a confirmed bust here in montreal where as tenderness excells in another market. So we gained an inch & a little better plus minus. I don't know much about this kid. Is he any good?
roy_133
Whatever, what ? It's a done Whatever as in Gui was going to be in the pressbox soon anyway, he'd fallen out of favor and despite all our injuries only played 5-6 mins on Saturday and Pouliot's even worse right now, he's a project. There were a lot of people questioning Pouliot at the time and many who questioned him being taken that high. IMO, he never showed anything prior to the Draft of going top 5 or even top 10. He has upside, but I think people here are going to look at his draft position and drastically overrate his upside, because I don't see a significant amount of it. Guest ForeverGuyLafleur
...and Todd Bertuzzi like power forward He was going towards that... until all the fools around him started giving advice there and there when the only thing the organisation should have asked of him SHOULD be to play the way he did in junior ranks: to be a one-way offensive-minded forward and to hell with the over-emphasis on defensive play. To be honest, I hate this trade when I think Pouliot didn't do jack so far and has less experience in the NHL.
