habs1119
According to La Presse http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hockey/20...anger-halak.php and sportsnet pick up this story as well. Halak is on the block, with Detroit and St-Louis as the named interested parties. Rightfully so it is mentioned that Montreal would part with Halak only if a top 6 fwd were offered. My question is this, will he be traded? And if so, who would you like to see don La Sainte Flannelle in return?
js2
Why would the Blues want him when they have Mason and Conklin who both have pretty good stats?
Lynch_mtl
I already posted this in the Battle between the pipes thread, but why is BG giving chips, lats and halak away individually? If BG wants a top six forward, then he isn't going to get it from just Halak in return. He definetely would've had a better chance getting a top six forward by including Lats, chips and halak in the deal. But now he's expecting to get a decent top six forward for a backup? Ok...I know chips and lats aren't valued superstars, but they have at least some value, especially Lats. Combine those three young players with a decent draft pick, and who knows what we could've got. There are a lot of possibilities, but the amount of possiblities are much fewer by just trading Halak alone.
billy-piton
i don't mind trading halak, because he'll probably ask for some hefty raise next summer, but we can't add top six forward if we don't trade away some bucks... halak + plek, or halak + ak could give us some really good player, but i wouldn't be unhappy if gainey ships halak for the first rounder. halak is an rfa, so he could be traded in the offseason. thats the more likely if we are going to be on the safe road to playoff. Kubby31
IMO.....Halak's trade bait.....just hope that whatever deal BG pulls off here.....that it' a sweet deal. All I can say is......some team is gonna get a decent starting netminder.

I dont think Chips would have brought back much as part of any deal. I do agree with you though: we may all love Halak, but if history has shown us anything, its that goalies dont have much return in this league - at least not young ones & not now. sebchenier
It's best for Halak's career and at this point it's inevitable that he'll wind up in another team. He'll do well too. But do we really need a top 6 forward? I'd let him go for a top end draft pick and that team's 3rd goalie and we can bring Sanford up.
CaptWelly
Detroit could use Halak. I f it was Detroit I would love to see Helm very fast hits everything will be a future star. That said I wouldn't mind keeping him, because Carey seams to always melt down in the second half. I hope he doesn't but I'd like to see a complete season with consistency. I like Carey but he hasn't proven to be a playoff goalie yet either. Halak hasn't yet either but may be able to if needed (injury) or just making the change when needed. (But with Carey since Gainey drafted him no matter how he does in the playoffs he'll be the man. 07-08 I would of liked to seen Halak play when we had fire power and Carey fell apart....and last years little fit? I hope he proves he can be "the" goalie, but as I said we need a whole season and maybe at least a few good playoff games before we get rid of another possible starter. jean-1
What we do need is an old veteran goalie to help Carey along the way. He has a long way to go as he is still very young. We should of grabbed like a Curtis Joseph or someone like that, that will not play many games, just to show Carey the way and keep in on the straight and arrow... Go Habs Go!! Halak for Zetterberg, straight up!!

Honestly, I don't see what we could get for Halak that would make any difference.....but maybe I'm wrong. I like having him as part of our roster. But whatever....it's BG's move. Could we get Helm? habs1119
I would prefer keeping him, but IF he were to be traded From Detroit I`m interested by Ville Leino and Abdelkader From St-Louis I`m interested by B.J. Crombeen and Perron I`m not saying these woulod be straight up one-for one trades but I like those players. Who`s to say that BG makes a move in conference in a package deal to Philly or Florida? Brisebois
I hope L.A. is interested in Halak. Maybe we could trade Halak, Pouliot and either D'Agostino or a draft pick to the Kings for Frolov.

ruuvimeisseli
Somewhat fair trade. To St-Louis: 5th round pick 2011 Jaroslav Halak To Montreal: 4th round pick 2010 Ty Conklin Patrik Berglund

Detroit and Leino seem to have a mutual agreement. He(Leino) told them(Det. Mgmt) that he was willing to go play for Grand Rapids(AHL) instead of the KHL(or somewhere else in Europe), because he wanted to play for the Red Wings so badly. So I don't see them trading him, but I could be wrong.
SK_74
Watching That's Hockey on TSN, and both St-Louis and Detroit GM's said they aren't interested in Halak, that both their goalie situations are fine.

DA_Champion
What I posted in Halak's thread: No hurry to trade this guy. He can give you 30 games a year with a .910 save percentage, and he does it for a cap hit of ~700k. Even if he gets a salary increase to 1 or 1.5 next year, he'll still be worth it. He's just been incredibly valuable to the habs the past few years. Possibly the best 9th round draft pick in habs history :-) The trade market for goalies is crap anyway. Is anyone actually interested in giving up what Halak gives to the team for a 2nd round draft pick? I don't think I'd even take a 1st rounder from an elite team. I wouldn't. A 1st rounder from a team on the bubble? Maybe.

In a limited roster spot, limited cap space NHL, no amount of bronze or copper can get you a single bar of gold. You need a bar of gold or 2 bars of silver. Even if that were not true, Pouliot 4th round pick Halak is not less attractive then: Latendresse Chipchura Halak

Hes only been to the playoffs twice in his SHORT career, how many goalies are proven playoff goalies in their first 2 years... Price hating is one thing, but you can atleast be smart about it
