Wayne-1
The guy didn't even touch the puck. This should be a suspension if you ask me. touching the puck is irrelevant in these cases, the league told the teams they were going to crack down on this sort of stuff (I think) at the start of last season... you simply can't 'play' the player instead of the puck on potential icing plays anymore... a suspension should be coming, but NHL supplementary discipline is simply unfathomable -- I follow all the procedures and criteria they have in place and I still don't know how they come up with some of their decisions... was Kopitar hurt?... if not, I'd say 1-2 games for Phaneuf... if he was, 5-7 games... or none... why doesn't the NHLPA push for player safety already... go with no-touch icing or remove the trapezoid and let the goalies play the puck so these races don't happen... that and get some serious measures in about headshots... Phizetheole
Yeah I didn't like the hit at all. He didn't even look at the puck once, just had the intent to injure. hope he gets a good suspension
29Dryden29
It was a great hit and no injury I do not see this as suspendable it was a race for the puck and Dion squeezed him out and took the body. I liked the play and it wouldn't matter who the hit was on.
gracie12
Under normal circumstances, I would say it was a clean hit (Kopitar fell & obviously that worsened the result, but i see no "intent to injure" from Phaneuf on this play) - BUT - its not a 'normal circumstance' - fact is, it was a race for a puck to negate icing. Kopitar, like any normal player, knowing that the rules are: You cant play the player, you must play the puck, on an icing, was skating full tilt, completely NOT expecting a hit. Because of this, it deserves a suspension: and a full explanation why - or else this sort of thing will continue to happen over and over again. cbarker78
Bad hit for an icing play.It could have ended a lot worse then this,I hope Phaneuf gets suspended.
Chunwah
Well, Phaneuf played against the Leafs last night so I guess he won't get suspended. Kopitar's head could have been split in half had it been caught between Phaneuf's legs and the boards. This is ridiculous.
QbGamer
Phaneuf is a goon, he should be suspended for that hit.. 100%
ChiLla
Of course no suspension, it's Dion Phaneuf. Wasn't he on some video game cover in the recent past? No way the NHL tolerates negative publicity when it comes to their stars. Let's play that game again and imagine it was Laraque who checked Kopitar in the boards and not Phaneuf...
