alzimutg
Nicklas Lidstrom is number 1. Brodeur is number 2, I would say.
Bastian_mtl
What, no "Big" George Laraque? Shocking... Lidstrom or Brodeur. Gotta give props to Sakic tho.

franck5890
Brodeur or Lidstrom for the simple fact that they were actually around for the entire decade.
Rondalsf
Sergei Samsanov.... Oh he's not on the list. I would pick a tie between Lidstrom & Brodeur.

SteenIsThaFuture
Peter Forsberg tends to get constantly underrated in top players disucssions, he more recently he's always been hurt but he used to be an extremly dominant player. From the 2000-01 season to now in 313 games he has 107 goals and 394 points. In 98 and 99 he put 25 and 30 goals as well as 94 and 108 points respectively. jim777
I'll take Marty since I'm a Devs fan, but Sakic and Lidstrom definitely get consideration. This one just starting might be the Sid and Alex decade though.

At his peak he was definitely the best player of the last decade IMO the only issue is games played obviously. Did he do it enough to beat out a guy like Lidstrom who had an impact on considerably more games? IMO no.

I don't disagree in total contribution, but I was just referring to the fact that he wasn't even on that list is just brutal.
Phizetheole
I would have to say Martin Brodeur because without him, the Devils would have been nothing and he has proven to not only be one of the best players of the decade. but possibly the best goalie of all time. DA_Champion
I don't disagree in total contribution, but I was just referring to the fact that he wasn't even on that list is just brutal. It seems obvious he isn't the best player of the decade. All the other players are legitimate candidates imo, except maybe Thornton and Kovalchuk. All the other players are legitimate candidates imo, except maybe Thornton and Kovalchuk. Well if you define the decade as starting in 99-00 he has a 1.25 PPG and a vast majority of that was done during the lower scoring portion of the decade (pre lockout), he was a great defensive player. He won a Hart, whatever that's worth. Is he the best player of the decade? I don't think so just because he wasn't healthy enough and didn't play the whole decade but at his peak IMO he was the best. If Crosby and Ovechkin are going to mention while playing half the decade I think Forsberg deserves some mention too.

I don't think Ovechkin fits, but he's definitely the best player of the half-decade... I'm pretty sure he has the most goals and the most points since coming in. Forsberg won a cup in 2001 and went to two conference finals (that's in the 2000's nevermind the 96 cup and the 99 conference final), he has 33 goals and 92 points in 83 playoff games since the 2000 season. Also if we're going to use half-decades just for fun, Forsberg had 93 goals and 325 points in 247 games from 01-06, that's a 1.32 PPG in a lower scoring era.
