roy_133
The worst part is that we're playing these aging marginal players just to avoid a basement finish. That's it. Every year, our goal isn't to win, it's to avoid being the biggest loser. Mara and MAB will be gone next year. Gill is 35 and on the downside of his career. We have many prospects who need ice time, but they can't get it because Bob Gainey can't face the possibility of us finishing at the bottom of the conference. I somewhat agree with you but even if he brought them up people would be complaining we're rushing players and ruining their development lol
fourtrax
I somewhat agree with you but even if he brought them up people would be complaining we're rushing players and ruining their development lol Well, giving a young player a chance at the NHL level isn't necessarily ruining their development if you do it right, but I take your point. Gainey has been doing this same song and dance with our defense for years (see Janne Niinimaa), and it is severely hurting the club.

BTW..is it ok to say the other word on here? Also if the players he brings up turn the team around I don't care what "people" say.
ColRouleBleu
I'm wondering if he's not with the team again. He was back and it was said he was to be in the lineup last Thursday. That didn't happen and then it was said he'd be in the lineup on Saturday and that didn't happen. I'd like JM to experiment with a Markov - O'Byrne. he was with the team in NY, he was just a healthy scratch. as for your experiment suggestion, i'm all for it. i also would like to see hammer with markie and OB with spacek. i think that spacek on the left side would be way more at ease and look more like the player we anticipated seeing when he was signed. --------------------------------------------------------- we'll get to see subban play in the ahl all star game this tuesday, tsn is showing it i think

Well my point isn't that you're wrong but my problem isn't with him signing guys like Mara as insurance policies, or Niinimaa becuase those guys are on 1 year deals and there's no big deal with sitting them down or dealing them if need be. Well this season has gone terribly wrong for a lot of reasons, injuries, bad acquisitions, players not playing upto snuff so now it's on the organization to make the ballsy moves that need to be made and start sitting some veterans on short term deals to play kids. I guess I like having a guy like Mara, it gives us options when it comes to our kids, we don't force them into an NHL role but with that being said we also need to be proactive in our thinking and the major problem is we have a GM in year 6 so is he going to have the balls to miss the playoffs is that's what it takes? It might cost him his job so probably not and that's why I wish the owners would make a long term decision. They should tell him finishing 8th isn't going to impact your future so do what's best for the team but I doubt they're interested in giving up a few potential home playoff games and a couple million bucks. They are doing okay on the penalty kill and Hammer doesn't seem too uncomfortable on the right side. It would put two D-men who love to backdoor on the same shift. As long as they don't go at the same time. LOL And Spacek and O'Byrne sounds good too. Thanks for the heads up on the All-Star game. I wouldn't mind seeing that. A new coach who has a GM breathing down his neck to make the playoffs by any means necessary so that his own job is safe for another year. Mara has been poor all year long and hasn't been benched once as far as I can recall. I don't think Jacques is calling all the shots.

That may not be a big deal bc its BGL but Jacques will put a kid in over a higher paid vet.
BobsYourDuncle
I've watched the replay twice now, and I have yet to see a goal that you can pin on Halak. He did not give up one soft goal in this game. In fact, he played quite well.

He did not give up one soft goal in this game. In fact, he played quite well. He played well? I'm not going to pin anything on him but even on pucks he stopped he looked incredibly shaky, horrible rebound controls and a couple long shots almost squeaked through him. It's not a big deal, it happens but it was definitely a bad night for him even if you don't think any of the goals were that weak (one was a one timer but he fanned on it with his glove). He was bad tonight, just like Carey was on Saturday so now it's time to move on.
Guest Carey_Price
I've watched the replay twice now, and I have yet to see a goal that you can pin on Halak. He did not give up one soft goal in this game. In fact, he played quite well. Goal #1: He was with the puck the whole time, but he couldn't make enough of an effort to freeze the puck and he watched it go in, watch the replay and notice how he moved from one side to another with it and even looks at it and attempts to glove it, in my opinion it could have been saved. Goal #4: Lol hilarious but sad, yah it bounced but again he was right with it and had time to react, and he did but it didn't help. He saw the puck bounce and attempted to catch it but he missed it and it went right over his left leg. Goal #6: It was a beauty, but Halak could have saved the wrist, he even touched it with his glove but he didn't put him self in front of the net, he just put his glove and it failed him by going off his glover and into the net. That's my take on the 3 softies, last one may not be soft to some, but it was deffs saveable. Idk what you consider a soft goal, but even after watching it twice i'm shocked you think they're all good and difficult-to-stop shots
BobsYourDuncle
Well exactly which goals would you say were his fault? The 1st goal came off a great pass and a tip-in right in front. Surely had no chance on that. The 2nd/tying goal, was a 2 on 1 in which he made the initial save, but the rebound was batted out of midair, within a foot of him. You can fault him for this? Likewise, the 3rd goal, another great pass just outside the crease that got through to the weak side to a forward standing at the goalmouth to bat it in. Roy couldn't have stopped that. Neither could Dryden. I think the 4th goal was Gaborik, I think, another 2 on one and a shot from one of the premier goal scorers in the league, in which he would've had to go side to side to make us safe. Can you fault him for this? I can't remember the 5th and 6th. One of them was Drury, and that was another shot similar to the one that Gaborik scored on. Oh, I know which one I forgot, the 4th goal was the power-play goal, not the one scored by Gaborik. Scramble in the goalmouth and his own player knocked it in. Goal #1: He was with the puck the whole time, but he couldn't make enough of an effort to freeze the puck and he watched it go in, watch the replay and notice how he moved from one side to another with it and even looks at it and attempts to glove it, in my opinion it could have been saved. I thought he played a really good game tonight. I would really like to know who you think would've stopped that shorthanded goal by Dubinsky. He made the 1st save on a 2 on one, and the rebound was batted out of midair, a sec. Later. What more do you want from a goaltender? Okay, I've said my bit. Team-Gainey
This team sucks...the sooner management admits it...the sooner they can take steps for the future. The best this team can do is play .500% hockey during the regular season, in the playoffs they'd go out in 4 straight. I prefer draft picks to build a future on. It's been almost 17 years since a Cup. It's time to plan for the future, otherwise this team will go another 17 years of the same. Canine64
Just returned home from the Garden. What a pathetic display... Is there anyone in the league slower than Gill? Can anyone hit the net? The "sharpshooters" must have had the night off. Lots of Habs fans in attendance tonight---very cool. However, can you stop with the "ole" song in the first period? It was fitting that the Rangers fans were mocking the "ole" song all during the 3rd period.
Briangbv
I agree completely, this weekend may have sent our playoff hopes out the window. Their playoff hopes have been doomed now for quite some time. The fact that none of the other teams seem to catch up in games played has never allowed there to be an accurate account of what the real playoff race looks like (us actually way behind). I thought with our 5 day layoff that teams would finally catch up, but another back-to-back and boom, again 2-3 more games played than everyone else basically. Tonight was shameful, and I am glad I did not have to sit through it.

koreysecord1992
Well I thought things were looking okay after the first period, but imagine my dismay when I checked the final score this morning. I guess I'm glad to see Plekanec and Cammalleri put up some points again, but they can put up all they want and they team won't win giving up 6 goals. Seems to be the story of the season: win a few and start looking good then lose a few a slip back to .500.
habs-24
When your entire D corps is healthy and you still have to play Gorges on the top pairing, you know something's wrong. Josh tries hard, and he's got a great heart, but he simply can't take those minutes against top-end players. Josh is a 5th defenseman playing in the 2 hole, your going to have problems
