Looks like Vyacheslav Kozlov wants out of Atlanta (who can blame him). I wonder who would be willing to take a chance with him?

he's in the 35+ cap hit category so that works against him to begin with

+ he's not having a great year statistically

+ he'd likely have to take a pay cut to stay in the NHL

= he's likely headed to the KHL...

this is referring to his situation regarding next season... which for the rest of this season means he'd be a rental who's currently having a poor year, so maybe someone might throw a mid-to-low level draft pick at the Thrashers for him, and since they're not going to play him, they'd accept just to get the salary off the books...

Eklund hasnt shut up about a deal happening with the Habs and Oilers, Price is involved, so is Cogliano and Smid, and draft picks. Comment your thoughts.
it's Eklund, so no one cares... save it for the "Habs Hot Stove" section of the site so the rest of us don't have to read his name...

Phil Kessel was a bit disappointing to me in this tournament. I thought he was supposed to have great speed and a great shot. I don't recall seeing him having much of an impact. Paul Stasny also didn't do to much IMO.

Players I liked a lot for USA

Miller (obviously some great goaltending)

Kane (was the most creative USA forward)

Kesler (lots of speed and never quit)

Parise (somewhat like Kesler)

Brown (lots of hard work down low)

Langdenbrunner/Drury (great defensive play shot blocking)

Rafalski (main offensive threat from the blueline) Sucks if he doesn't play in the next olympics

The whole defense Orpik/Johnson/etc did a good job blocking shots and playing physical

Penguins add bulk to defense with Panthers' Leopold

Monday, 03.01.2010 / 10:35 AM / 2010 NHL Trade Deadline By John McGourty - NHL.com Staff Writer 59Share It didn't take long for teams to start dealing after the Olympic trade embargo was lifted.

The Florida Panthers have dealt defenseman Jordan Leopold to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2010 second-round draft pick.

Leopold, 29, had 7 goals, 11 assists and a minus-7 rating in 61 games this season. He was second on the team in average ice time per game at 22:25, and led the team with an average of 3:01 penalty-killing time per game.

A 1999 second-round pick (No. 44) of the Anaheim Ducks, Leopold has played for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche and Panthers. He has 36 goals and 91 assists in 416 NHL games over seven seasons.

A native of Golden Valley, Minn., Leopold starred for Armstrong High School before joining the United States National Team Development Program. After one season there, he played four years at the University of Minnesota. He was the Golden Gophers' third-leading scorer, with 20 goals and 48 points, in 2001-02 when they won the NCAA championship. He capped that season by winning the Hobey Baker Award as the collegiate player of the year.

Leopold's best NHL season was 2003-04, when he had 9 goals and 33 points while playing all 82 regular-season games, and 10 assists in 26 playoff games as he helped the Flames to the Stanley Cup Final.

The move adds bulk to a Penguins blue line long on finesse players -- Sergei Gonchar, Kris Letang, Alex Goligoski -- but short on physical players. Leopold's 59 hits would rank him third among Pittsburgh blueliners, behind Brooks Orpik and Letang.

NHL teams weren't allowed to make deals during the 2010 Winter Olympics, but the ban on trades was lifted at midnight Monday.

Stajan to stay with Flames

Monday, 03.01.2010 / 12:31 PM / News NHL.com

Calgary Flames forward Matt Stajan has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. TSN has reported it's a four-year deal. Terms of the contract were not revealed.

Stajan, 26, was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Acquired by the Flames as part of the seven-player deal that sent Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 31, Stajan has 2 goals and 7 points in four games in Calgary, and has been used on the top line with captain Jarome Iginla.

For the season, Stajan has 18 goals and 45 points in 62 games.
