Thought I'd start this since we're a little more than a week away until the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. If it's too early for the Mods, sorry.

Canada's Men's Olympic Hockey schedule (with tv sched, and available languages, according to CTVOlympics.ca):

*All times are 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT*

  • Tuesday, February 16 - vs Norway - CTV, V, RDS
  • Thursday, February 18 - vs Switzerland - CTV, V, RDS, OMNI, APTN (Madarin/Cantonese, Italian and Aboriginal languages)
  • Sunday, February 21 - vs United States - CTV, V, OMNI (Mandarin/Cantonese language)

Full Tournament Schedule

  • ->
Full Men's Hockey Tournament schedule from NHL.com.

Rosters

  • ->
Complete Men's and Women's hockey rosters from all participating countries, from CTV Olympics.

Tournament News

  • ->

I hope that is enough info for now.

I'd love to see the Koivu bro's win gold - since this is probably Saku's last year on an Olympic roster, however, I love Canada too and would love to see them win gold on Canadian soil.

I'd be happy with either one of the two, if Canada doesn't do as well as expected then I'll be going with Finland for sure.

Here are the Montreal Canadiens that were named to their respective countries:

Tomas Plekanec - Team Czech Republic

Andrei Markov - Team Russia

Jaroslav Halak - Team Slovakia

Andrei Kostitsyn - Team Belarus (*Injured, will not play*)

Sergei Kostitsyn - Team Belarus

Yannik Weber - Team Switzerland

I'm going to say it, Cammalleri should have made the Canadian team (even though he wouldn't have been able to play), Gionta could have been named to the American team, and Hamrlik should have made the Czech team.

Can't wait for this to get started. IMO Yzerman did an amazing job picking this team, they have every situation covered. .... I for one, am a sore loser. If Canada doesn't get gold i hope the rest of the teams get kicked out for some sort if indescretions.

I agree with you somewhat on that. I personally wouldn't have put Scott Neidermayer on the team, let alone make him the Captain. Could have used a younger/tougher defenceman like Jay Bouwmeester or Mike Green. I also would have named Jarome Iginla captain of the team. But then again, there's a good reason why I'm not the GM of the team! :lol:

Really? :blink::mellow: I had him as my 2nd choice,but neverless....is deserving.

This was my 1st choice,as I posted months ago.

Don't get me wrong, him being there is justified. They wanted a veteran, and someone who won the Stanley Cup as a captain, but if we're going by his stats in the last calendar year, he hasn't been doing much of anything. That's why I think they could have used a younger defenceman in his place.

Agreed....but,

His last yrs stats should not play a factor here....IMO.

They went with much youth here,but veteran presence cannot be replaced.

Go Canada.

the Fins all the way no question, such a great run in 06 hopefully teemu and saku can pick it up where they left off..... dominating.

I despise certain players on every team in the tourney(the big teams anyway). Doesn't make a difference to me though, Once they put that Maple Leaf on front of the sweater all is forgiven . For 2 weeks anyway ;)

lets go Crosbaby?

Same here. I could care less if it was Sidney Crosby scoring the Gold medal winning goal, or Martin Brodeur gets the Gold medal winning shutout. The NHL and Olympics are two completely different things. It's about National Pride here, folks. Most people I know, if not all, would agree.

Who wants to bet Canada dominates the whole tournament and no one comes close?

I'll take that bet. I bet Russia dominates the the whole tournament, and Canada gets silver. Just tell me the terms of the bet, and you're on.

Anyways, I'm also willing to bet Slovakia surprises in the tournament. I'm rooting for the little team. I hope Finland goes far, but I seriously doubt it, unless of course goaltenders come up big.

I agree....I would like Canada to win it but I think the Russians just have too much offensive firepower to be stopped in a short tourney. Also, I like Slovakia as a dark horse to do well and maybe even medal.
