DA_Champion
With today's game, he has 42 goals and 44 assists in 51 games. When is the last time anybody has had a season this good? He's missed 9 games due to injury, yet he leads the NHL in both goals and points. His +38 is also the best in the NHL, some people think the statistic is luck I think it's because the game is simply a different sport when Ovechkin steps on the ice. Notice who's 2nd and 3rd in the NHL - his linemates. Perhaps it is he, rather than Crosby or Malkin as usually assumed, who is the most likely player of this generation to break one of Gretzky's records. Potentially the 50 goals in 39 games, that one seems the most breakable.

Its funny because i've always thought that 50 in 39 was the most likely to be broken (neely got very close one year) but gretzky himself said he thought it was the one record of his that was least likely to be broken... js2
Ovechkin is a whole other level of hockey player. The guy has already surpassed the 500 point mark and he's only 24 years old.

Crosby has a legitimate chance to pass it at 22 Ovechkin is the best offensive player on the planet though.

I don't know about most breakable, like you said at the start of your post he's got 42 in 51 and that's as well as anyone has scored in ages, to get to 50 in 39 he'd need to score about another half a goal per game, which is pretty outrageous. Glory_Days
Crosby has a legitimate chance to pass it at 22 Ovechkin is the best offensive player on the planet though. We should be looking at amount of games played instead of age. Ovy did it in 374 games, while Crosby has 471 points in 348 games. Basically, Crosby needs 29 points in 26 games, which is just over a point per game. Unless he goes into a big pointless drought, he will get to 500 points in the same amount of games as Ovy or possibly a couple games less.
koreysecord1992
I feel like everytime Washington plays and I check the box this guy's got multiple point. Jagr's probably the last to have produced points at such a clip.
teststory
I think Ove and Crosby are pretty close to eachother in ability, but Ovechkin seems to have more energy then anyone in the NHL and he also looks like a full grown man even though he shouldn't be for another few years. Malkin is similar in that he looks large sized and mature for his age. I'd give Ovechkin the edge because he is willing to shoot a lot and score goals, but amazing Crosby is not many goals behind him this year. Last year I would have said Malkin is the best player, but I'm not sure what hes doing this year. Hes not doing bad, but he hasn't cracked the top 10 in points which he is expected to do. teststory
That was a good point about the +/-. Does Ovechkin get to have the selky trophy this year since he leads the NHL in +/- or is his plus/minus so high simply because the Caps score so much when he is on the ice? dfrancis
I like Ovechkin's scoring and everything, but I don't like how he jumps when he hits, and gets away with it. I don't like how he gets special treatment from the rules because he's a star.

dfrancis
lol if he wins the Selke. That would be ridiculous haha. Who do we think could win it though? Jordan Staal? MAybe Datsyuk goes for the 3 peat?
teststory
A better way to judge the selke might be to show how many goals have been scored against when a player is on the ice instead of the differential between goals scored and goals scored against. That still leaves a lot up to the other 5 men on the ice with you.
