Guest
He was OK as a Leaf but stunk it up with Buffalo and was mediocre with the Panthers. Whether we like this deal or not, we cant do anything about it now other then to welcome him to the team. I dont know if its possible for him to give us the production to make that 2nd round pick look like a bargain but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. At least he's been to a couple teams since the Leafs. Should be enough time to rid himself of the stink.
puckoff1
well i was saying i definetly think we need a proper thrid line center...is this guy one? does he hit? for a 2nd rounder i sure hope so....

No he's not a physical player but he's a Martin type player, very good skater, very smart, very good defensively and excellent in the faceoff circle. He will take a large chunk of the PK load of Plekanec because of that. He's OK offensively but he's really the kind of 3rd line center we haven't had in a while I mean Metro is a good guy but not great defensively and doesn't kill penalties, he's more of a utility guy who does everything alright and Lapierre is an energy guy. I don't like the price we paid or the timing because we're not a contending team but this guy does fill some needs. It will be nice to have a guy who can win some key faceoffs and take some of the defensive load off Plekanec.

From the get-go I assumed that this was addition by subtraction. The major benefit of his arrival, will be sparing our top line centers from the hours they typically play on the PK. That being said, if he can add anysort of offensive to our bottom 6 he could help out far more than most of us are giving hm credit for. Also, realistically, his cap hit is not bad at all. An extension at a similar cap hit would be welcome given our cap constraints going forward. 1.1M for a 3/4 center who can fill in as a #2 in a pinch (or #1 if your the laffs) is a pretty good deal. Although, wasnt he looking for 2.5-3 after his season with the leafs?
roy_133
Although, wasnt he looking for 2.5-3 after his season with the leafs? Yeah he had a pretty big year and it was a bad year in the market to ask for too much money. I would be very happy if we brought this guy back to replace Metro at pretty close to Glen's salary, he brings a lot more of what we need.

flamesgal1
I thought we may stop the trend of aquiring 3 and 4th line players. When will it ever stop? Why waste one nickle? Let your younger players develop through the system by getting those minutes these older players are taking. How will you find that diamond if you never give the kids a true chance to get some minutes. Focus on a main core....top 5 or 6 forwards which we may actually have when healthy...and a true top 3 or 4 deeman...we have 1...OBee may be in a couple of years...Hammer is passed his prime and not mean enough...if you get to the point where you look like you can challenge then fine...fill a whole here and there but this is just another case on taking minutes away from a young player. We may not like the leafs, but burke gave away leftovers for a top end dee in Phineuf. Thats is the type of thing Gauthier should focus on not these low level players.
