Habs Trade D'agostini For Blues Palushaj

Recommended Posts

Well we might pick up an aging d man for Hamilton off waivers but I've learned (after waiting all day the last two years for moves) no to get my hopes up.

that was Bob, he wouldnt have traded Dagostini so we are already ahead of the game

I'm sure we'll find a way to ruin him once he's called up. Then we can ship him out for 'underachieving.'

:P:P

Maybe it doesn't work out but this is like trading an empty pizza box for a scratch and win, you really can't lose.

I thought that Dags would be waived. So getting a prospect is far better then nothing.

Could Dags become a good 3rd/4th line player? Maybe.

At this point the writing was on the wall. Players like Pyatt, Lapierre, Metro, Moen, White, and other players from Hamilton seem to bring better checking or more energy to the 3rd / 4th lines.

True, but we've seen how quickly prospects can go from "can contribute in the future" to "useless pylon, trade him for the next prospect we can elevate to godhood and then cast down". ;)

It's good return, I guess, on paper.

I don't really see what this trade does for us and I honestly don't know how everyone bashing D'Agostini can think this new guy will be so much better if St Louis were willing to accept only D'Agostini in return, a guy who "brings nothing" as a few people have put it.

Fine about D'Agostini leaving, but for another short guy? Good lord! Pathetic.

Drafted in 07, and yet to make his NHL debut, whats that tell ya?!

Ah, well, not expecting much today anyhow.

How many 20 year olds are in the NHL?

Dags only has 2 things good shooting and speed the rest is awful. Palushaj at the very least gives us a guy with top 6 potential playing in his first year of ahl. 5g, 17a, 22pts, 44gp + Dags is 23, while aaron is 20.

That's my concern... Dags started with a blaze but quickly fizzled out. We still have to get Patches going as well, although, I do like what I see coming out of Hamilton these days. But will they do the typical "cool down" that we've come to expect from our AHLer's. Time will tell... Can't be much worse than Dags, 2 goals all season, total of like 4 points. I think Darche has already tied him for points.

Yeah. It's his first pro year and he's having a bit of a tough time adjusting but he tore up college and he is a legit prospect. He's not going to be here this year or probably next year (atleast to start) but it's hard to dislike this trade.

This is a kind of trade Gauthier should be making. Dumping players who aren't in plans (D'Ago, old vets like Metro, Mara, MAB) for good prospects and picks.

I'm completely ecstatic we were able to get Palushaj for D'Ago.

Agreed, I feel some level of rebuilding is necessary. Not necessarily tanking (although that would have the benefit of high draft picks), but I think the team could use some moves like this (although D'ags isn't exactly old, this still seems like a good move for the future).

That said, it may have been more about D'ags not being in the Habs plans than trying to sell, it's tough to say anything about Gauthier's strategy today from this move. But at least he didn't trade D'ags for a rental! :D

Well, either this guy is a legit prospect or St. Louis messed up big time, because I can't see any sane GM trading a good prospect for marginal, soft, defensively questionable forward who was going to be RFA this summer anyway.

My feeling is that we got this guy because his chances of sticking at the NHL level are fairly low.

Many GMs can't even properly value their current assets, let alone the value of an up-and-coming prospect. I have no expectations of this guy, but I do know that D'Ags wasn't going to be doing anything else for us. This trade was either beneficial to us or of no consequence.

The chance of D'Agostini becoming a regular, serviceable NHLer is extremely slim, maybe on a lower tier team out of the spotlight.

Palushaj is three years younger and will benefit from playing in Hamilton, he just made the jump to the AHL, so it's way too early to tell if he can make it or not. I assume there's a reason he was picked in the second round.

Dags had potential, just couldn't achieve under the current staff. That would be why Gainey kept him. I think it was a nothing trade, we got nothing for nothing. Another small player who really doesn't have impressive stats at all and probably will never see the light of day on the team. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe if/when he comes up he will be impressive, just not seeing it right now. Looking really dismal for the habs now, time is running out and we have a lot of dead weight on the team and a tight cap. With mostly everyone back yesterday, despite the 4-1 win, we weren't impressive and didn't seem improved at all from before the break. Another quick exit from the playoffs and a long summer is what I see but then again I think anyone who knows anything can see that.
