Sochi 2014 Dream Team

Recommended Posts

Well, hockey is finally getting interesting again after the sudden thump of world class hockey ending and mediocre NHL hockey starting. Man were those first few games boring! Anyway, I've been thinking a lot lately about what the Sochi team would look like. I really quickly put a team together, but I'm sure I've made some obvious omissions. It's just kind of neat thinking about who would be there down the line. Of course, there are going to be guys that probably come out of nowhere and guys who could be completely interchangeable to the point of a coin flip. But it's just an idea to kick around for fun. Here is my list.

forwards

nash crosby iginla

perry getzlaf Estaal

carter toews richards

duchene Jstaal stamkos

I think you keep the nucleus of the forwards together. Say goodbye to the san jose line except maybe Heatley. Bye to Morrow likely. Jordan Staal is becoming an excellent two way centre and would be good for a 4th line. Also, it would be cool having all 3 Staals. You've got familiarity with perry/getzlaf and carter/richards -- all with international experience. You could bump Nash down to the line he was with in Vancouver with Toews and Richards and put another scorer with Sid. So many possibilities. 13th forward could be anyone. Too many to think of. Tavares? Hall? Eberle? Someone defensive like Bergeron?

defence

weber doughty

keith Mstaal

bouwmeester burns

Say goodbye to the old guys and keep weber, doughty, keith obviously. replace seabrook with marc staal. in 4 years he would be getting into his prime and he's handling things well at 23 or so. If Burns ever stayed healthy he could be an interesting add. Off the radar at the moment because of the injuries, but you could go other routes with Green, Subban, etc. Bouwmeester is a toss up. He's been kinda meh since coming here to Calgary. Good but not great, but so much potential.

Anywho, dissect my team if you'd like. I'd like to hear other names too. I think the only real locks are Sid, Getzlaf, Toews, Doughty, Weber, and Keith. Otherwise it could be all up in the air. Later gators.

haha wow i just googled sochi canada roster and found this. i'm surprised how close his is to mine. i completely forgot about tyler myers even though i thought of him when i wasn't at my computer making my list. would be a very good addition.

During the Tradecentre on TSN Michael Peca discussed who he thought would be on the 2014 roster. Its interesting to see that Mike Green is not there and Dany Heatley and some prospects from now like Duchene and Tavares.

Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby - Corey Perry

Eric Staal - Ryan Getzlaf - Jeff Carter

Mike Richards - Johnathon Toews - Jordan Eberle

Taylor Hall - Steven Stamkos - Wayne Simmonds

Brooks Laich

Drew Doughty - Duncan Keith

Tyler Myers - Dion Phaneuf

Brent Seabrook - Marc Staal

Shea Weber

Roberto Luongo

Marc-Andre Fleury

Steve Mason

4 years from now, I am thinking there'll be more changes from 2010's team than just those. I certainly hope so, otherwise what kind of development is happening? Where was Doughty 4 years ago? Was he even shaving? Playing Midget somewhere I guess he was. He waas one of Canada's top 4 D at Vancouver. More of the same, please (and I expect).

# 1 need (clearly), a game (and show!?) stopper in goal. Brodeur / Luongo wasn't it; and won't be in 2014.

Peca's outline rings the right way with me .... well, except for goaltenders. But that one's tough right now, because no Canadian goaltender is amongst lead leaders in key stats (Save % and GAA).

yeah like i said, guys are going to come out of nowhere.

as far as the goalies go, that's one you'd have to choose the year of. it could be any number of guys. maybe cam ward. fleury. price. heck it could be brian elliott for all we know. ya gotta ride who's hot.

by the way, i think doughty STILL doesn't shave! lol

What about Tavares? I think he could be there.

I think he would have a good chance so long as he doesn't become one-dimensional. But then again, if he scores a goal a game who would care if he couldn't play defence too?

ya i could see nash going back with toews and stamkos with sid.

@roy, you only wish i was banned, sucka!

i completely disagree, i think we should keep toews with richards and maybe an iginla for a checking line, also i find stamkos is a guy who wants the puck on his stick all the time, but we need crosby to have the ppuck so id put a tavares on that line a guy who will just stand in the right spot and have crosby feed him all day. id also put a big body on that line, like a nash or a staal( either one).
