You've got some serious MMW's in your sig lol. I don't think you're correct on the first one so far though though, BG certainly wasn't fired, and i don't think we're in a rebuilding year or we would have been sellers at the deadline. And the Habs are looking much better for the playoffs. But hey back when you made that we certainly weren't so im not sayin much there.

They were just predictions to see if i was correct or not, cause i won't remember what i wrote a couple months back. :P

Right now, the Habs could take any of these teams, and all the others in playoff contention, too.

HOWEVER....

It should be obvious that if we face Pittsburgh, we will not only be playing against the Pens, but also against Bettman and his crooked refs. And he probably has the War Room in Toronto covered as well, in case the game hinges on a reviewable call. To make matters worse, I think Bettman has something against Montreal, along with his obvious love for Baby Cindy & Co. I don't think it's any coincidence that after making their position clear that no new rule regarding head shots would be enacted until after the season, now that the Boston-Pittsburgh rematch is at hand, all of a sudden the NHL wants to "fast-track" a new rule prohibiting head shots. They might as well write a new rule that says "If Sidney Crosby gets injured, the player on the opposing team who injured him will be automatically suspended for 82 games; the team which the guilty player plays on will not be allowed to win a playoff game; and the coach for the guilty team will pay a fine of 75% of his salary for the next 10 seasons."

So I guess I'm saying, anybody but Pittsburgh.

i didnt know that we clinched a playoff spot?

but since we are playing this game id like a showdown with the Flyers in round 1 or any round that it would be possible. just putrid putrid hate there

Cool that we are even thinking about a thread like this on 3/18 because on 2/18, this didn't seem possible. Order I'd like to see the Habs face:

1. Buffalo : I think we win this series, they have virtually an equivalent amount of skill up front and have Ryan Miller. If Halak keeps up with Miller and our PP stays productive, we're a slightly better team. It would go 6 or 7.

2. New Jersey : Seem to be coming together and Brodeur always kills us but his aura of invincibility has been shattered after last year's playoffs and this year's olympics, would be an upset but I'm not convinced Kovy makes playoff impact.

3. Washington : Rather play them than Pittsburgh because they are more leaky defensively and have yet to have a successful playoff run.

4. Pittsburgh : Defending Champs for a reason. Battle tested and Crosby is having one of those magical years with all kinds of luck. The 1 team I really don't wanna see, even more so than the Caps.

Good point on the Flyers. The Habs are only four points back of the Sabres for the division lead. Montreal could very well be playing the Flyers, the Senators or even Bruins in round 1. The poll should be expanded to include these teams. My guess right now would be the Senators.

Call me crazy however I believe New Jersey may be team to gun for were I to support a "pick your position" style of play. I am definitely of them mindset to continue onward with the intensity and desire to win in comparison to throwing games for a "perfect match" however such would prove little for subject of debate, hence the topic. Nonetheless I opt for New Jersey primarily because Martin Brodeur has displayed weakness and NJ has a profound reliance on him to furthermore compliment their defensive system. In addition Kovalchuk, as mentioned in the initial post, has been a hindrance with the Devils, having only just recovered for a less than stellar record. The Olympics proved too much for Brodeur and whilst such pressure is unfathomable for any team to mount in comparison, I believe NJ can be surprised out in the first round. Carolina did it last season. ;)

I do not desire any part of Washington in spite of their lackluster defense. Varly has proven he can maintain composer in a playoff series should Theodore flounder and our tendency to deviate from a defense could be disastrous against a team practically believing Stanley Cup desire. Such is not to claim they are invulnerable however I simply believe they may long for it more so than the Habs outside the gate.

Buffalo is a toss, their team is not superior to ours nor is it inferior however Ryan Miller has played out of his bloody mind and excluding fatigue he will continue to do so. My concern is another hot goaltender scenario which two years ago devastated the Habs cinderella season run. Nonetheless they could be taken.

Pittsburgh is sort of a combination of all three to a lesser extent. Fleury has been weak in net however less suspect than NJ, which has me ponder whether or not they could lose focus midway into a series. Contemplating that possible scenario they may we be of similar quality as NJ for us however I am admittedly leery of a Crosby/Malkin surge. Of all the teams Pittsburgh would be my "wish list", so to speak if only to leave the league in astonishment were they upsetted in the first round.

honestly as long as we get into the playoffs, i could care less who we play......but.....out of those 4 teams, i think i would pick washington lol....we have seen so many times how a good goalie can carry a team far and i think that is the Caps biggest weakness....in goal.

Devils = brodeur

Pens = fleury

Sabres = miller (yikes)

Caps = ....theo?...varlamov? - think i would choose them

Throw in the other teams that could easily play the Habs in round 1.

Sens have LeClaire and Elliot or that other Brodeur

Flyers are in trouble now with Leighton out for 2 months

Bruins have Thomas and Rask

Take the Flyers.

It's hard to say we are 4 pts behind Buf we still play them twice we could win the division and be third which means we could play Ott, Buf Phi, we could finish fifth and play Pgh or NJ we could finish sixth and play Buf or Ott, we could finish seventh and play NJ or Pgh , we could finish eighth and play Wsh, missin the playoff at this point would be difficult if Mtl playes .500 that is 11 pts, but at their current .pct they would get 13 pts add to 78= 91 NYR have 70 g and 71 pts to equal 92 that is 22 out of 24 very unlikely. So I think eighth is the worste we will finish. Personally I like the way we match up against Wsh. Goaltending we are better, Defence we have as many pts/ game as them. They have OB but we have being able to control him this year, yes their second line is good aswell where I think we can equal the game is third and forth line, in a long series we can roll 4 lines better and our checking lines can also score that is why we are winning now, Wsh has 1 shut down line, who do they check, where as our best lines are also checking lines. As long as we don't play a trap team I think we will do fine.

Things are still a bit up in the air, could finish anywhere from 3-8. I'll say i'd prefer a first round matchup with the Devils. What I want most, regardless of seed or opponent, is advancement.We're all getting tired of the first or second round exit. 93, the last time Montreal went past the Conf. finals. 17 long years. And to think I thought it was a nightmare from 80-83 not getting to at least the Conference Finals. Fella's, some of us ain't getting any younger and we need to see some playoff success regardless of opponent.
