Washington would be a great match too watch, As who doesnt love to watch a washington game. Pitsbugh with cooke in the lineup could be dangerous. Id prefer not to play them ever. Jersey all depends in Brodeur, where we get the olympic brodeur who played horrible. Or the Broduer of old where he is on fire against the habs. The best bet of us winning would be Buffalo, just need to run Miller ala Begin hit on him a few yrs back

I'm still concerned about getting into the playoffs. The habs have a tough week coming up and need to find a way to win 3 of 4 of those games IMO to stay ahead of the pack.If we make it in there really is no good match up for us.I would pick Buffalo or Washington to face if I could.Washington has weak goaltending and Buffalo is good but maybe not as good as Pittsburgh or New Jersey.

As well all should...were not completely out of the woods yet.....But I do like our chances compared to 3-4 weeks ago.

Were playing good hockey as a team....almost completely healthy ( Reinforcements on their way as we speak :P )

And teams around us that had 2-3 games on hand have not been doing all to great as of late....helping our cause.

GO HABS vs Ottawa Monday...another huge 2 points for the taking.

This is a huge plus in our playoff push.

We need to 10 points for us too lock up a playoff spot. So 50% hockey and were in

And thats if all the teams behind us win everything...

I would prefer Buffalo because apart from Miller They are not that good a team.

Washington=Ovie, Semin, Backstrom, Green

Pittsburgh= Crosby, Malkin, Stall, Fleury, Gonchar

NJ=Martin Brodeur, Kovaulchuk, Parise

true that but for some reason we always struggle against them. even when we win, it's a close call, specially in buffalo

we either have to start winning or start losing and end up in 8th, cuz if we stay in 7th we play the pens... and i dont like our chances. i think the sabres or the devils are the way to go. but as long as we make the playoffs idc who we play, just getting greedy haha

Although I feel Buffalo is the weakest of the four, they have the best goaltender and that may shift things in the playoffs.

Washington is a good regular season team, but I think in the playoffs defensive problems and goaltending will be their downfall.

Pittsburgh has a well rounded team and I don't particularly want to face them, but they are beatable.

New Jersey has a solid team, but I don't think Brodeur has another cup-run left in him and they still aren't spectacular after a couple of players.

So I guess I'd like to face, in order

1.) Washington

2.) New Jersey

3.) Buffalo

4.) Pittsburgh

I think it will be either Habs and Sabers or Habs and Devils. Personally, I would prefer the Sabers. Sabers are weaker on defence than the Devils, a team that picked up Ilya Kovalchuk and who may start jelling really well with his new team mates come playoff time. Devils offence was without Elias for a while there, too, and who will likely resume scoring any time soon. I don't like the idea of facing Brodeur in the playoffs either. He's a notorious money goaltender come spring time. At least with the Sabers we can get to Miller for some shots on net. Devils? Eeesh, I dunno.

The order I prefer looking at the strenght and weaknesses of the teams:

Sabers

Caps

Devils

Pens

But... maybe to start of with a strong team right away... get right in there. Still in doubt what will be best for this team.

PLAYOFFS? WE TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS? After their pathetic efforts against Toronto and Ottawa we're still talking about who we want to slaughter us in the PLAYOFFS? We should be talking about who we're going to draft. PLAYOFFS?

Things are still a bit up in the air, could finish anywhere from 3-8. I'll say i'd prefer a first round matchup with the Devils. What I want most, regardless of seed or opponent, is advancement. We're all getting tired of the first or second round exit. 93, the last time Montreal went past the Conf. finals. 17 long years. And to think I thought it was a nightmare from 80-83 not getting to at least the Conference Finals. Fella's, some of us ain't getting any younger and we need to see some playoff success regardless of opponent.

Amen brother. Born in 63 in Montreal, gotta be the luckiest fan on earth. But the last 17 years? Geez what the hell? I'm getin a bit tired and old, wish the boys would step it up.

I think Montreal will finish #7 or 8 which means either Washington or New Jersey, neither of which series I would believe Montreal would win. Both of these teams' offenses are quite good and likely will outplay Montreals. Though then again neither of these teams' defences are that strong (With regards to shutdown D-men Washington is especially weak while NJ traded away Oduya and have had injury issues) and this could be exploited.

I think if I was a Montreal fan, I would hope to play Buffalo which would be a 3v6 battle. Montreal would be on more of an even footing but I think Buffalo would prevail in the end.

It can only be exploited by players who show up to a game. If we continue to play the way we have recently, I don't think we're going to be exploiting anything.

If our team is guaranteed to lose in the first round of playoffs, then I would like it to be against a really tough opponent. Washington is my choice. I want to be entertained while the ship is sinking :P

Hilarious! The ship is foundering. Question is which player/players are going to go down with it? The one's wearing the skirts?

I can't believe I just picked Pittsburgh. Really though, I just don't see a good answer there.

  • Washington has Ovechkin, who is going to be one giant, hungry monster. I actually picked them to win the cup before the whole Campbell situation. For some reason though I think karma will end up biting Ovie at some point. Still, I don't really want to play them, though it would be really exciting.
  • New Jersey has defense, offense, a goalie who is probably looking to prove himself just a little bit after the Olympics, and a damn good coach. They would be my absolute last pick to play. They're my new pick to win the cup this year.
  • Buffalo doesn't look as bad, but they have two things over us. They have amazing goaltending, and they have a great coach in Lindy Ruff who I feel could possibly embarrass Martin over the course of a playoff series. No thanks.
Pittsburgh has the stars, but they may not be as hungry as the other teams. Defending champions with lots of pressure, Crosby has already won everything under the sun... I just don't see them being the same team as last year. Fleury has the potential to be spectacular, but he can also be shaky. We've also stepped up our game to beat the Pens this year. Finally it would be awfully entertaining. :) The Pens are my pick, but it's an awfully tough choice.
