Alastair_LighT
For some reason for the last couple of weeks every time I try to type a message on the forum in the text box I can't see the flashing cursor. Instead I've been using internet explorer for the forum, but I'd rather use Firefox. Does anyone know how I can get the flashing cursor to come back? Thank you. FirstStar
For some reason for the last couple of weeks every time I try to type a message on the forum in the text box I can't see the flashing cursor. Instead I've been using internet explorer for the forum, but I'd rather use Firefox. Does anyone know how I can get the flashing cursor to come back? Thank you. I've had the same problem for several months now... It 1st started on my laptop when I installed firefox, then when I reformatted one of my other computers and installed Firefox I had the same issues. I've learned to cope with it though and found ways around it, so I'll give you my tips. First off, when you use the "fast reply" option, you don't have the same issues, it works fine. Only when quoting and replying (posting new)do I have issues. I also found that when quoting, I couldn't reply after the quote, it would only start typing before the quote and like you, my cursor wouldn't flash-be there at all. I hope this makes sense, I'm going to explain it as easily as I can. If you want to reply after the quote (or go back and correct a spelling mistake, add a word etc..), the only way I was able to do this, is if I brought the pointer to the end of the quote(or whereever I wanted to start typing), and as if I were going to paste (or cut) I press the "right click" button on my mouse, which opens up the dialoge box. I open the dialog box (copy, cut, paste, etc...), close it and from where I opened the box I can start typing. Makes it hard to go back through your post to correct a mistake, but I've gotten quite use to it now. Like I said, if you want to reply after a quote or go back to correct an error, simply "right click" on the mouse(like if you were going to paste), close it and start typing. It won't make your cursor appear, but it'll give you control of where you want to start typing. But if you want to go back on what you have typed, you must move the pointer to the place you want to go to and do the whole "right click" thing all over again. It can be quite frustrating, but you'll eventually get the hang of it. If you are still having issues, PM me and I'll try to explain it to you in a different way. Hope this helps. -FS BTW, when Forever Habs #10 came to Montreal for the game, he had the same issues. I don't know if it went back to normal once he got back to New Brunswick, but I found it odd that his laptop only gave him issues when he came here. Also, I got use to it (and prefer firefox), but if it gets too frustrating, you can also come on the forum using Internet Explorer. I've had no issues with Explorer, I just don't like it. beaubie
This is kinda irrelevant but is there a significant difference between viewing the forum from Firefox compared to internet explorer. When you say you prefer not to use it, why is that?
Innis_Mor
Huh. I've used Mozilla Firefox exclusively across three computers for years including all my posts here, and nary a problem of any sort, in this forum or anywhere else. A couple of secure financial websites are set only for MS Explorer in their security, so that is the only time I switch over to Bill Gates' browser. FirstStar
This is kinda irrelevant but is there a significant difference between viewing the forum from Firefox compared to internet explorer. When you say you prefer not to use it, why is that? Just personal preference I guess, I do find firefox more secure and I've noticed that most websites run better with firefox. All round, I just prefer the way firefox runs and is set up, very user friendly compared to explorer. Huh. I've used Mozilla Firefox exclusively across three computers for years including all my posts here, and nary a problem of any sort, in this forum or anywhere else. A couple of secure financial websites are set only for MS Explorer in their security, so that is the only time I switch over to Bill Gates' browser. This is a recent issue, I can't exactly pin point the root, but it seems to have happened with their latest update (their newest version). It worked fine on my (main) personal computer until I reformatted and reinstalled firefox.

Alastair_LighT
Thanks for the feedback. You described the exact same problems I'm having. However, instead of doing the right click thing, I'm just going to use Internet Explorer whenever I come here. I don't want to get used to right clicking to move the "invisible cursor" from place to place lol. Maybe Firefox's next update will fix the problem. roy_133
I had the same problem, I uninstalled firefox and went back to an older version and it's working fine again.

Same here.....As mentioned above by Firststar....I was having the exact same issues as you all are mentioning above....but as Roy_133 has said (and I thanked him for the tip),all you do is uninstall firefox & go back to the older version, and it'll work fine. What happen to me was when a new version box popped up and I clicked on it,this is when I began having the problem mentioned above..........so I just re-installed the older version.................and now works just fine. Hawker_mtl
Firefox usually has a new update available every couple weeks. I imagine a small glitch got through on the latest version, and in a couple weeks the issue will probably be fixed.

I've been through several updates, no change.

Yep, I learned my lesson....if it's not broken, don't fix it. ....My firefox is working just fine without adding updates.
FirstStar
If you completely uninstall and install Firefox 3.5.9 you will have no more problems.

Correct......and in my above post....I meant to say not to click on "NEWER VERSION'S"....new updates are acceptable.
Hawker_mtl
That's weird because I do remember having this issue on and off, but right now it seems to be fine. I'm using the latest Firefox version 3.6.2. I'd be careful using old versions for too long. Eventually the security updates may catch up to you. Finally, just curious... any Google Chrome users here? If you completely uninstall and install Firefox 3.5.9 you will have no more problems. Has anybody tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest version? Yes, I tried it (I even reformatted my computer and reinstalled firefox 3.6 on a clean version of vista), which is why I found a way to live with it. But since installing 3.5.9 I haven't had any issues. Btw, I didn't reformat because of the firefox issue, I didn't have the issue on computer #3 until I reformatted and installed the latest version of firefox (3.6). My laptop had the same firefox issues for at least a few months, way before I reformatted my desktop. Finger's crossed.
Hawker_mtl
Just another quick suggestion. I find I do get the cursor issue once in awhile, but moreso on Habs I/O than here. When it happens, I just click outside of the text area then click back in. When I do that I believe the cursor has come back at times.

MuskokaTorontoGirl
The problems I am having are I have to load a page a bunch of times, sometimes photo's do not appear or it refreshes the page automatically, sometimes it just exists for no reason, sometimes it takes me to something I have never gone to before. My firefox is up to date...literally everything is up to date and I still have issues...it is weird
