Kubby31
I don't really think it's a big issue, and I think if we were up 3-1 in the series, no one would be talking about this. +

AO did do it on purpose, but it was just for the fun of it, nothing harmful, nothing disrespectful. I did feel bad for the little guy, but to take it personally would be a mistake. seriously...i would...cause its dangerous and its not cool...as a main player in the game you dont do that to a little kid...not a 12 year old...15 year old...6...a 6 year old...if you saw that at a skating rink...some huge guy randomly speed in on a kid (your kid your brother your nephew cousin) and snow shower would you laugh it off?? thats ridiculous...its a stupid thing to do period...up 3-1 would be even worse...hed come off looking like sour grapes...my reaction would be the same regardless
Chunwah
Let's just say for argument's sake that Ovie does this and loses an edge and crashes into the kid. What happens then?

catt-_mtlc
What a loser. I used to really like this guy over Crosby but after the Olympics and Crosby's heroics it made me see what a classy winner Crosby is. I hope the Pens meet the Caps in the conference finals and Crosby kicks this guy's arrogant *****. I mean this guy is supposed to be one of the league's best show some class! amp73
FWIW, it's his pre game ritual , although he could have wiped out I also heard that he gave both kids an autographed stick http://habsinsideout.com/main/33318 Ovie vs the flag kid: Not a scandal, folks posted by Dave Stubbs at 7h16 EST on Apr 22 OK, not that Alexander Ovechkin needs my support, but here's a little background on his pregame kicking of snow on the socks of the young Canadiens flag-bearer that's got so many folks' knickers in a twist. Here's the YouTube video of it (image at left is from the RDS feed). When Washington emerges from their room across the Bell Centre rink, every Capitals player turns a few quick warmup laps. Not Ovechkin. Not last night, not for Game 3 Monday. Ovie sprints absolute full bore across the ice to the Caps bench, hits the brakes and immediately takes his seat at the end, beside where the Habs' backup goalie sits. Other players need the fast laps to get pumped. But Ovechkin does this. Game 3, he came so hard that his stop nearly sliced the stray cable of the cameraman kneeling on the ice to shoot the Habs coming onto the rink. He'll do the same for Game 6, if there is one and if he's not in the starting six. The good news is, this flag-waving kid will live forever on YouTube. Too bad for him the snow from Ovechkin's skates melted on his socks, or he could have sold them for a pile of dough on eBay. But imagine if Ovie had slipped. They'd still be taking the kid off the boards with a spatula

Guest
Be interesting to see if the routine changes in Game 6 on Monday. All eyes will be on the pregame ceremony now. Would be hilarious if the Habs changed it up a bit and put a couple of sumo wrestlers on the ice.

If his intentions were bad, then he's in my bad books, and he goes off the ice. If the kid's alright, I move on, if not I show him the way to the medic. Then I move on. I used the same general thought process here: his intentions weren't bad, and the kid was ok, so I found it easy to look at this and go "oh well, I've seen worse," and then move on. Look, I'm not surprised to see people upset and frankly I respect that you're upset, as I can understand where you're coming from. For me though, I don't see anything that bad here. What has he done that could be interpreted as embarassing , other than this little incident , which he's been doing all year , and no one said anything about it before ? What we should have for game 6 is the kids on ice as usual "but" put Gill & OB behind each one Park Gill RIGHT in the gate to block the "ritual" .. would be REALLY funny to see Ovie fly across & then look UPPPP & go "oh cr@p" & have to peel off & go somewhere else . (might even mess up his game even more... ) If no back up .. then the kid for game 6 should be warned about it . ( & have a snowball ready ... or wave the flag so much, it goes in Ovie's face & causes him to eat board )

fourtrax
I used to respect this guy because of all the stories I'd hear about how he was great with the fans and especially the kids. After watching that, I'll never respect that loser again regardless of what he accomplishes in his hockey career. What a huge loser! +1 I had respect for Ovechkin prior to this season, but his reckless play, selfish attitude, egomania, and rudeness towards his opponents (the whole Halak is nervous thing) have turned me off completely. RSD
What has he done that could be interpreted as embarassing , other than this little incident , which he's been doing all year , and no one said anything about it before ? i dont know if you watch habs games on rds or if you catch em online or on center ice...on rds they alwaysss show the little kids...and ive seen all the habs games this season and that includes from the get go when those little kids skate around with the flags and line up where the habs come out...not once during the season (the 2 home games against washington) did i see ovechkin skate up and snow shower a kid ... so that means, hes either done his "ritual" before the kids get there ... or after they are gone ... if he could do that then, why not now... its not only not a good look on ovechkin to be doing that to a 6 year old ... its dangerous ... hasnt happened yet, but if he slips and flys into that kid ... 233lbs coming in at high speed vs. a 6 year old holding a flag ... if people have seen him do this in front of other kids and not said anything, then thats not cool either ... he should be warned that it is dangerous ... and thats the last i have to say on this whole thing ... i didnt like, i didnt think it was cool or funny, and i think its dangerous ... no one would like it if lapierre did it to a kid in a caps jersey i can guarantee you that ... even worse if avery did it ... i can put a thousand dollars on that ... funny when ovechkin does it, only because hes ovechkins ... not cool
