Your Hab Game Superstitions??

Well,,, we have a little time to kill before round 3 begins,,, so i thought it would be neat to hear what you do, or dont do, before or during a Habs game,,, for luck.

Myself,,,i have this lucky Hab blanket that i have folded in such a way that only the CH is visible and facing the TV. Its where i sit faithfully for all Habs games. I dont get to see all the games from the beginning because of my work schedule but whenever i do,,, i find that the habs winning % is well above 500. :D

I know all about the playoff beard thing but I shave the day before a habs game wether I need it or not. I don't shave any other time during the playoffs. Also I have this old raggety habs hat that I wear while watching the game and an awesome habs 100th anniversary habs watch. I find when I do these things that the habs seem to win more often, I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything but hell I'm not stoping now! I'm in way to deep to, you know........just in case :D

In my house, my wife and both kids watch all the games together. We usually watch all 82 games. In the family room I have one of those entertainment leather sofas that recline. My oldest, sits on the far left. He always wears his Habs boxers, his Koivu jersey and this old pair of torn socks. My wife sits next to him. My youngest sits next to her and I sit on the far right. I have the surround system on and the volume is always at 27 for my son's favourite player (Kovalev). Even though he's not a Hab anymore, we still continue to keep the volume at that level and believe me it's loud.

Lastly, no one is allowed to get up during the game, only at commercials and in between periods. Between periods, the kids and I go to the garage and have a shootout, the little guy plays goalie.

My superstitions vary from year to year. This year, I've come up with two different ones. One is that I wear the same Habs shirt under my Habs jersey during the games. I didn't start that one till the second round and I'm not sure how things went with or without it during the first round. The second one I'm more sure about. I've watched 9 of 14 games live at home and they are 8-1 in those games. Two games were not on TV and they lost both of those. Two games I had to watch after the fact and they lost both games. One game I watched at a friend's house and they lost. Needless to say, I'm gonna do everything in my power to watch all the rest of the games live at home.

Well, my rituals kinda change... When I played, I didn't dare change a thing. Now watching hockey, I feel I have a lil more freedom.

1st, I wore my jersey's during the caps game. Then the Habs started to lose, so I picked up a Cammarelli jersey and the Habs still lost!

Then, I started to watch the games jersey-less and the Habs came back with 3 straight wins, woohoo!

As soon as the Habs eliminated the caps I shaved (wife doesn't like a full beard, she likes to see some facial skin), but didn't shave again til this morning.

After the 1st loss against the pens (still jersey-less), I decided to go jersey-less again for game 2, then again for game 3. I'm pretty sure it was game 6 I decided to break out the Cammer jersey again (up until that point, I kinda draped them over the back of the sofa), but it was game 6,-do or die and I decided to go try my Cammer(desperate times). To my surprise, Cammarelli scored 2 goals that night, so I wore it again for game 7 and Cammer scored again and the Habs won!

Don't know what my rituals will be for the next round... I guess I'll continue to play it by ear, like I did for the 1st 2 rounds-somehow it worked, so why test fate. Game 1 of the eastern conference finals, I'm going with my Cammarelli jersey, since I've been wearing it again, he's been scoring.

Oh yeah, I have a neighbor who's a huge hab fan as well. We get together from time to time for the games, since April, every time we watched a game together, the Habs lost. <_<

We watched a few of the Caps games together... Yeah, Habs lost those one's too. So, every time he invites me over for the game (or wants to come over here), I come up with an excuse. No offense against my neighbor, but for some reason when we watch the games together, Habs never win. I just don't know how long I'll be able to hold him off... I'm sure he's starting to think I don't want to see him. It's not that, I just want the Habs to win!

Oh yeah, one ritual that never changes (win or lose), is my Molson "X". I always manage to (at the very least) have 3 Molson "X's" on hand... One for each period. Weekends I drink a lil more.

When cheering on the Habs, I can never call them 'Les Boys' - everytime I did, they ended up loosing. I wince even at reading the words on here during the games for fear of it...

I also -have- to watch every game. It's not simply out of a desire to, but when I watch, they win. Against the Caps, I had to leave in the middle of two of the home games... The very periods I missed was when the Caps scored.

So, now I'll not miss a game, and I have to keep a lid on my Quebecker french...

Get him to join the board and maybe he'll see your post and get the hint. :P

Second attempt…

I’m badly in need for a hair cut and color but my daughters forbid me to do anything while the Habs are in the playoffs. I guess it’s the female side of a play off beard  My husband does grow a beard each winter and waits for the Habs to be on vacation to shave it off for summer.

Game rituals are different whether watching at home or at the arena. At home it’s pretty simple. I always wear one of my 3 Markov T-shirts. The Gionta one ‘works’ too if the Markov ones are in the laundry basket but only for road games. The only other thing is that I DON’T log on the forum during the game. I did a few times in the past and we lost badly each time.

At the arena, the ‘setup’ is sacred and never to be deviated from:

Mandatory double/double combination of T-shirts and jerseys. Markov for me, Plekanec for the younger daughter, Lapierre for the older daughter and if her boyfriend comes to the game with us, he has to do the double/double too. His is Cammy. Hubby just wears a ‘Booins suck’ t-shirt under a Price sweater no matter which team we play against. Girls wear their tuque even if the weather is warm (they wore it in Florida last year  ). Red tuque with the white jersey (14) and white tuque with the red jersey (40). We always have a ‘Go Super Pleky’ sign made from one of my photos. Sometimes we bring others too but the Super Pleky one has to be there. We also have the little beaver mascot (which you may have seen in the photo thread), his name is Super Pleki Deuxième du Nom. We always enter the arena as soon as they open the doors. If the game is home at the Bell, it’s always the door next to section 116 and we get our hotdogs always from the same counter. In any arena including home, we go for nachos between the 2nd and 3rd period.

Finally, we have specific ‘dance moves’ for specific players when they score.

That ‘s about it :D

Everyone above me is nuts!!!!!

I gotta have a Habs T-shirt on and I think Bob Cole announcing the games is bad luck. Therefore we've had to overcome the Caps, the Pens, the refs and Boob Cole so far in the playoffs. Yeah, I know, I'm nuts too.

hahah i had 2 lucky shirts for the last 2 or 3 years, this year i actually ditched one of them during the caps series but a lucky hat emerged to take its place and its still got lots of power in it guys :D

its actually a habs hat, my lucky shirt that i ditched was an oakland raiders shirt so i think its a good sign. its been a good feeling all playoffs long, its been really fun

keep it going boys, keep up your crazy rituals everyone its working!!! lets keep sending them the vibes!!!

Great idea for a thread HTL. I don't really have any rituals. HOWEVER.......

As you know I live in SASK so playoffs games start at 5 for me & I work till 6.

For this years playoffs I listen to the first period on the internet then drive like a maniac to watch the next two.

For both games sevens I left work early so I could watch the entire game. Boy I'm so happy I did for the last game. I think I can still hear Cindy crying.

So, I will have to do the same for the next round...right?! :D

Every game,,,I put on my Habs sweater, (over 10 years old and NEVER washed), Habs ball cap,,,and for the last 2 games my Habs socks. I have a tea in my Habs cup, around 30-45 min. before the game. I have already been on here since the GDT opened, and don't log out. I then pull-up CJAD and/or team 990 to get all the latest info. I sit about 3' from my 32" TV and right here, in front of my puter. Most times I check out the opponents forums to see what they are saying. My GF (Leafs Fan) comes over about 10 min. before the game and she sits at then end of the couch. I mute the TV and listen to the play-by-play on CJAD. I NEVER get up during the game, only TV time-outs and between periods. I never, ever make coments on the GDT during the game, (sometimes I'm 5-6 pages behind :o

That's about it for me.

This is a great thread.I finally know I'm not crazy for doing these rituals while watching at home:

Volume has to be set on a number of a current Habs plaayer. During the playoffs..I stop at the numbers 16 and 25 for a bit then go to wtv number I want it to be on (Usually 26, 31 or 32....I put it on 41 sometimes but neighbours seem to complain when i do :P)

My Habs blanket has to be showing the Canadiens sign, and I high five my Cammalleri jersey on the wall everytime he scores :D

I can't use the washroom except during intermissions and I chew gum during all of first and third periods...giving my jaws a break for the second

OK...that's all. good to know I'm not crazy or if I'm, I'm not the only one :P

You bet. Like i mentioned,,,,my blankets winning % is well above 500 when i see the game from the opening faceoff.I've had to shuffle my work schedule like crazy to make sure i get there in time to see the puck to drop for all playoff games. My neighbour ( Leaf fan  ) was laughing at me as i ran out of the car Wednesday night just before the game. He yells over to me ,,,"" cutting it pretty close arent ya"" Needless to say,,,,i made it. :D
