phew, that eyesore wont pass through the bell centre doors:

The new third jersey will be worn for 12 home games this season, including its debut on Oct. 9 for the Sabres' season opener when they host the New York Rangers at HSBC Arena. Seems 10/9/10 is going to be the night for retro sweaters in the NHL.

SABRES LOSE LEADING SCORER ROY FOR FOUR-TO-SIX MONTHS

The Buffalo Sabres loss to the Panthers on Thursday was a costly one.

The club announced on Friday that leading scorer Derek Roy, who left the game near the seven minute mark of the first period after being taken into the boards by Florida defenceman Dmitry Kulikov while carrying the puck, will need surgery to repair a torn quad tendon.

The injury will see Roy sidelined for four-to-six months.

In 35 games this season, Roy has 10 goals and 25 assists.

FORMER SABRE RICK MARTIN DIES IN ONE-CAR CRASH

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Rick Martin, a former member of the Buffalo Sabres' heralded French Connection line, has died. He was 59.

The Sabres confirmed Martin's passing Sunday in a statement before its home game against the Ottawa Senators.

New York State Police said Martin died in a one-car crash earlier in the day in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence, N.Y.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Martin teamed with Gilbert Perreault and Rene Robert to form the French Connection in the 1970s.

He played the first 10 of his NHL 11 seasons with the Sabres and set what was then the NHL rookie record by scoring 44 goals in 1971.

Martin closed his career with Los Angeles in 1981-82 season.
