Dintrox12
27000 years in the future. Glen Sather will continue to mystify with his GM brilliance! This summer: Sather at the draft selects McIlrath 10th overall while Fowler and Gormley are still available. He then signs Boogard to a 4 year deal 1.6M/yr. This while still having Brashear on contract at 1.4M for next year. how the heck does Sather keep his job?

The year is 29010, and some of Sather's long term deals are still being paid for by the Rangers 27000 years later. He got rid of Higgins, a player who was compressed by the very Rangers he led. Compressed? By the Rangers? You honestly feel that Higgin's poor play is the Ranger's fault somehow?

Plus his ice time was cut down at some point when he played for the Rangers, hence the compression. Hopefully the Panthers will have a good season out of him... He was such a good GM in Edmonton keeping that team competitive for years on a shoestring budget. As GM of the Rangers the sky is the limit (or maybe the cap) and he makes horrible decisions when it comes to free agent signing and drafting. Glad he's not our GM

I believe the Rangers have let Brashear go, either on waivers or they plan on buying him out. So, the boogard signing isn't all that surprising, it's the price that blows the mind! I'd take BG any day over Sather. Letting Fowler and/or Gormley slip through their fingers will come back to haunt them. McIlrath does bring size and would've been a good pick in the 2nd round... As a first round pick, it's ubsurd! Considering who was still left at that point in the draft. This was one odd draft. This. He was such a good GM in Edmonton keeping that team competitive for years on a shoestring budget. ColRouleBleu
McIlrath... that name is too funny, sounds in Québec French like something that means 'when he's gonna miss' fitting for the Rangers

ChiLla
I still don't get the Boogaard deal. Maybe I'm missing something but why would you sign a guy like him to a 4 year deal? He averages around 53-54 games per season, hasn't scored a goal since 2006 and averaged 2 assists per year over the last four. I guess he skates fairly well for a big guy and is probably the best enforcer in the league right now but why 4 years? I don't get it. His Cap hit is obviously a joke too. SteenIsThaFuture
Knowing the kind of owner James Dolan is, I'm skeptical about how much of those stupid moves are purely Sather's fault. Dolan is a meddling owner and not always the brightest one.
ChiLla
Knowing the kind of owner James Dolan is, I'm skeptical about how much of those stupid moves are purely Sather's fault. Dolan is a meddling owner and not always the brightest one. He might had a say in acquiring Gaborik or even in signing Gomez and Drury to those obscene contracts but I really doubt he forced Sather to sign the Boogeyman to a 4 year deal. Pure speculation on my part of course, you may well be right On a sidenote, how's McDonagh coming along? You think we're gonna see him in the NHL this year or anytime soon? I didn't follow his development at all after the trade.

Pure speculation on my part of course, you may well be right Excerpt from the book Money Players, Then there's the Dolan factor. Since Jim Dolan's firm Cablevision acquired the Rangers, the chief executive has become "very, very, very, very involved" in the running of the Rangers, says former general manager Neil Smith. "Cablevision believes if every company has one CEO, we should have ten." That philosophy extends to hockey players, too, says Smith. While he tried to rebuild an aging 1994 Stanley Cup team with younger players, Smith says, Dolan was obsessed with the latest veteran free agents, whether they fit the Rangers or not. "He told me I had to come back with him," says Smith. "If I didn't, I was through." When Smith questioned the advisability of signing the emotionally volatile Fleury, Dolan replied, "It's my money." Fleury was signed, but subsequently checked into another rehab centre; Smith was fired and replaced by Sather. Clearly, Dolan has been telling Sather that he wants Holik on his team in 2002-03. On a sidenote, how's McDonagh coming along? You think we're gonna see him in the NHL this year or anytime soon? I didn't follow his development at all after the trade. Offensive potential is kinda limited, looking like a #4, borderline #3 but it's a reach. Just signed a pro contract I'd say 60/40 he breaks camps with NY. S-Bah
Just got back from the Bibliothèque Nationale with a copy of the book Thanks also for the update on McDonagh! Counting the Dolan factor and everything else my thought is they shouldn't make the playoffs but that's usually when the Rangers make it. So the Rangers actually fight it out for the 8th spot again. Kubby31
RE:Last nights game, leafs ot winner over the rangers..... Gaborik suffered his injury as a result of a boarding penalty by Leafs forward Colby Armstrong, who received two minutes for his action. Rangers forward Ryan Callahan had some pointed words about the hit following the game. "It was a bit of a hit from behind there, and it's no secret that it probably happened because it was Gabby," *Callahan said. "We'll take care of that when the time comes." The Rangers and Leafs play twice in the next two weeks -- Oct. 21 in Toronto and Oct. 30 back here at Madison Square Garden. *Why in the heck would you publicly announce your intentions through the media, plain dumb if ya ask me.
