You know, for the 1st few months they were officially an NHL team, I really thought they were a basketball team. Seriously. :lol: Why? How? Because of their logo/name of the team. Now all the news about LeBron and all, how is this gonna really effect the team and to a team thats about to rebuild? Maybe they'll be over shadowed by NBA and move the team back to Quebec to bring back to old rivalry. :P

GO HIGGINS!!! :unsure::P

Ya fo sho! On our way back from our Holidays' hockey road trip, we'll probably go check out a non Habs game. We're stopping in NJ but also in NC. Perhaps we'll go see the Panthers / Canes game and my daughter will wear her Habs Higgins t-shirt on which she added the F word in liquid paper :lol:

REPORT: PANTHERS IN CONTRACT TALKS WITH GOALTENDER VOKOUN...panthers2_78539.jpg

It appears the Florida Panthers would like to keep Tomas Vokoun around after this season.

According to the Florida Sun Sentinel, the Panthers are in talks with their #1 goaltender to extend his contract beyond this season.

The 34-year-old Vokoun is in the final year of his current contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"He's not definitely gone," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon told the Sun Sentinel. "We talked to his agent and while they expressed an interest in staying, we've expressed an interest in keeping him if it makes sense."

Should talks break down and the Panthers remain out of the playoff chase, Vokoun could be dealt before the trade deadline on Feb 28. However, he has a no-move clause in his contract but his 5.7 million cap hit may be a bigger roadblock to being dealt.

"We've had ongoing discussions with Florida about a potential extension,'' Vokoun's agent, Michael Deutsch told the Sun Sentinel. "Conversations are continuing, and we'll see where they go.''

This season, Vokoun has a 2.56 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .922 while facing the 1,000 shots, the sixth-highest total in the league.

I think this might be a rare case where Vokoun might actually be able to get MORE money by staying with his current team than we would by leaving. He's played really well, but with the market the way it is I doubt he could find anyone to pay him even what he's making now. Florida might.

he'd easily take a pay cut for the cup, which i doubt he gets in sunrise

CAMPBELL WAIVES NO-TRADE CLAUSE, DEALT TO PANTHERS FOR OLESZ

Defenceman Brian Campbell has agreed to waive his no-trade clause in order to go to the Florida Panthers.

The Chicago Blackhawks sent Campbell to the Panthers in exchange for forward Rostislav Olesz.

Campbell still has five years left in his current contract at $7.1 million per year.

The 32-year-old defenceman had 27 points and was a plus-28 last year for the Blackhawks. The former sixth-round draft pick has 312 points in 11 seasons in the league.

Olesz scored six goals and 17 points in 41 games with Florida last season. The 25-year-old former first-round draft pick missed a number of games due to injury, including a 17-game stint on the injured list with a broken finger, and the final 21 games of the season with a knee injury.

Olesz has a no-trade clause that kicks in on July 1.
