Toughest Game/loss You've Watched

I was thinking about this today. It's up to you as to what constitutes a 'tough' game or loss but I'm talking about in terms of having to watch as a fan. Maybe it was too much and you turned it off or you turned off your TV in despair, heartbreak, rage, tears, anger... take your pick.

I'm going more in the direction of regular season games moreso than playoff games because I think there are more of those games in the playoffs. But feel free to mention one.

Oh, and I'm not sadistic. Just a wonderin'. And I apologize if I make you remember something you'd rather have kept in the depths of your memory. :)

Watching mostly all our habs games this season...hard for me to pin point exactly a certain game....there were many loses hard to swallow I'm sure.

and of course.....................recently.........philly series....yes,I do want to forget that. <_<

GO HABS!

When we didn't make the playoffs because we lost at the ACC to Toronto on the last game of the 2006-2007 season

That one hurt big time.

Of the 09-10 season, the Buffalo one when we were up by two then threw it away

That's the one I had in mind when I put this up. I had a huge irrational fear of goalie pulling after that for a while..

And that moment when Hamrlik and Halak collided.....it will haunt me for a while.

I'll go with this season only:

- game 1 the loss was not in the final score but on the roster list i was totally devastated

- the home opener, just because a loss on the home opener is a party pooper

- the 2-0 loss against nashville when carey made 50+ saves but it wasn't enough

- the loss against ottawa when kovalev made his first appearance at the bell centre

- the 3-0 loss against the laffs (i was there ugh...) after which beauchemin said he didn't even sweat

- the beating we took against buffalo the night before the centennial game (that game should never have been on the schedule on that date to begin with)

- and the 2 games vs philly before the olympics, specially the one at the bell centre

all the other losses were not fun but i could live with them a bit more than those above

+1

My first season watching the Habs ends in such a frustrating stupid game. What also comes to mind is game 5 of the Philly series 2007-2008 where it looked like we had a legitimate chance of winning, and we ended up losing in a ridiculous fashion, which put an end to our best season in decades.

Wouldn't be so much a loss for us, but rather a loss other fans have watched was when the Habs shellacked the Bruins 6-1 in October of 2007. I believe it was the 22nd, 6 days after my b-day, so it was a pretty sick game to go to. BTW, Chara is HUGE.

Apart from this year's loss to the Flyers in game 5, I have to say the loss to the Flyers in game 5 (sheesh history repeating itself) in the '08 playoffs. We were first in the East. It took us 7 to beat Boston, but we did it. And then to lose to those Flyers....I have disliked them ever since. I seriously cried while that game was ending. It was closer than the 6-4 score suggests (I think there was an empty netter there) but man was that a sad day.

As already mentioned above the loss to T.O when they knocked us out of the playoffs.

Any loss to Boston, Philly & Toronto is hard to swallow.

Also when the Nordiques would beat us especially the playoffs that one year.

However the worst one for me is the playoff series against an up & coming Edmonton Oiler team.

Yeah...it is by far the toughest and most memorable loss in recent Habs history. It was a bizarre game starting with the whole Huet/Halak thing before the game, then Ryder got a hattrick and we still lost. It left me confused and didn't sink in till the next morning that it was really over for us that season. ofcourse Wade Dublowich (or however you spell his name) made it all better when he knocked the Leafs and grabbed the 8th spot for the Islanders :D

Ditto. I drove 40 minutes to watch that game with Toronto fans because they had NHL centerice and I didnt.

Yeah same thing FH said.

Probably for me... the 89 cup loss on home ice was one of the toughest to swallow.

As disappointed as i was... I was happy for mr Lanny McDonald. At least we didn't lose the cup to a guy like Messier.

Oh that was a bad,bad summer.

That loss was, and still is, the only time we have lost the Cup on home ice. Yea,,,,,,,,,,,that was BAD.

The loss to the Laffs rates up there too, but the one that REALLY gets to me, is the last game that Patrick Roy played. Tremblay should have been gone, not Roy. Because of that loss (and the subsequent Roy trade) we were wandering for years.

STILL makes me mad!!!!!

I would have to say game 2 of the Habs-Caps series of this year! we were totally dominating then we simply fell apart to lose in OT. That may have been the hardest to come to terms with..tore my heart out. I'm sure everyone's forgotten about it because of what happened afterwards...

Yah. But the one after that. Not only was it 5-1 but it put us down 3-1. Lets just say I was very depressed after that. I haven't forgotten any of them. Its just nice to say that we turned it around after that.

I have to agree... The 89 loss and the whole Roy fiasco were the hardest to swallow(for me). I was still fairly young when that went down and being a goalie myself (when Roy won the cup in 86), I was still very supportive of Roy. Since then, I've found it hard to get too attached to individual players (or to have a favorite).

Mario's stubbornness and his war of words with Scotty (media) all led up to that game and the slaughter. If you re-watch the game carefully, you'll notice that Scotty "B" rolled his 2 top lines for most of the game, completely pelting Roy with shots (he never really had a chance). Scotty did this to humiliate Tremblay and Tremblay in turn, used it as an opportunity to humiliate Roy.

Those truly are the dark years (the Mario years). Roy did have favoritism with the previous coaches, but c'mon, when a player almost single handily wins 2 cups for the team and put up stats never seen before by a goaltender, he's allowed to have some favoritism. Mario really gave Patrick's a hard time, almost went out of his way to make things hard for Patrick... I don't really know what motivated Mario to do this, maybe he was jealous of Roy's status, wanted to make an example out of him or went a lil too far trying to distance himself from Roy (Mario and Roy were roommates on the road when the 2 played together), whatever it was... He really made a mess of the team. Mr Corey didn't help the situation either.

Getting swept by Boston on 1st round of the 2008-2009 playoffs

Losing to Philly on the 2nd round of the 2007-2008 playoffs

And of course our recent game 5 loss to philly, if only we had some scoring help besides from cammy and gionta. And pretty much watching MAB on ice in the series.

Tremblay & Houle destroyed this team for a number of years. I cheered for them when they played for our Stanley Cups but I still can't, to this present day, ever, ever forgive them for what they did as Coach & GM. I use those words (coach & gm) very loosley.
