RSD
I think it was expected but it's official: Luongo relinquished his C. I think it's a good move, giving Luongo the C was stupid to begin with. Imagine being called out by your goalie when you're losing 3-0?? That's going to cause tension. They always knew the Sedins were their future, they should have given it to one of them as soon as Naslund left. I think we can officially say this experiment failed. Hey Canucks, were Roy or Brodeur ever given the C? No? Think about it...
Kubby31
Sedin's for Captain?......either one. Roberto Luongo has relinquished his role as captain of the Vancouver Canucks after two seasons. The team made the announcement on Monday, after Luongo met with club president and general manager Mike Gillis. “Roberto has been an excellent captain for our team the past two seasons,” Gillis said in a statement. “We respect and support his decision to relinquish the captaincy and are confident that he will continue to help lead our team through his tremendous character and work ethic both on and off of the ice.” Luongo posted a 40-22-4 record in 68 games in the regular season, and led team Canada to a gold medal at the Olympics. He struggled in the second round of the playoffs against the Chicago Blackhawks, allowing four or more goals in three of the clubs' four losses. "I am honoured to have served as captain of the Vancouver Canucks for the past two seasons," Luongo said. "Being captain in a Canadian city for a team with such passionate fans is a privilege and an experience I will always take pride in. I will continue to be a leader on this team and support my teammates the same way I always have while focusing on our ultimate goal." The Canucks will announce their new leadership group prior to the start of the regular season.
gracie12
Luongo relinquished his C. I think it's a good move, giving Luongo the C was stupid to begin with. This. Under normal circumstances a goalie as captain doesnt make a lot of sense, but when you're in a hockey mad market and your goalie is seen as a "franchise player" or the "saviour" giving him the C is like a recipe for disaster. RSD
This. Exactly, it was always crazy to me. I mean, look at a team like the Devils, even Uncle Lou knew that giving Brodeur the C would be too much. They always knew they were going to move forward with the Sedins, they should have given one of them the C when Naslund left.
franck5890
This. Under normal circumstances a goalie as captain doesnt make a lot of sense, but when you're in a hockey mad market and your goalie is seen as a "franchise player" or the "saviour" giving him the C is like a recipe for disaster. See, I was informed recently that a goaltender can't even technically be a captain in the NHL, thus making the "captaincy" merely symbolic. Which makes the media circus they've created over all of this completely ridiculous if you ask me.
EHIW
I'd give a's to the sedin's and the C to kesler. Kesler isn't the most popular of players though Henrik C Daniel A Ehroff/Edler A

Kubby31
As we know...the Sedin's are the face of the franchise...using either one, couldn't go wrong. Luongo given captaincy, what were they thinking.

The 35-year-old Pitt Meadows, B.C. native, an unrestricted free agent, is now free to explore other options after the two sides couldn't come to terms. The Canucks reportedly tried to offer a two-way contract that Morrison and his agent turned down. His agent, Kurt Overhardt, says two teams in the Eastern Conference and one in the Western Conference are interested his his services and more inquiries are coming in. Toronto general manager Brian Burke confirmed to TSN that the Maple Leafs are not one of those teams. A former-Canuck, Morrison registered one assist in four preseason games. He earned $1.5-million last season with the Washington Capitals and had 12 goals and 30 assists in 74 games, his highest point total since the 2005-06 season with Vancouver. Morrison had 393 points in 543 games in Vancouver, where he centred Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund for four seasons. But he was slowed by a torn ACL late in 2008 and split the following season between Anaheim and Dallas before being signed by Washington.
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
I thought their were rumours floating around about the Canucks having to move one of their d-men this off-season. I know they recently put O'Brien on waivers, but they're still above the salary cap. Wasn't their Bieksa trade rumours? I guess that all dried up.
