Arnott Traded To Devils

Recommended Posts

Jason Arnott's been traded to the New Jersey Devils, where he won a cup a decade ago.

Nashville gets Matt Halischuk, a very good prospect and a 2nd round pick in 2011.

Could be a good trade for both teams, Arnott is still capable of 60 pts if he plays a full year and Nashville frees up a lot of money they can use in free agency to help replace Hamhuis who was also traded earlier today or to fill some other holes in the lineup.

Nashville sure has been busy today. First trading the rights to Hamhuis and then trading another solid piece of their offense in Jason Arnott to the New Jersey Devils. This is a good deal for the Devils because they finally get a second line center to play with Elias, Zubrus, etc... This is good for Nashville as well because they add another young forward to their system.

Now that Jason Arnott was traded to New Jersey, couldn't we just opped the return Nashville got? A second rounder and Sergei Kostitsyn would have been better than what they got. Or maybe we could have added AK as well and also got J.P. Dumont in return. Arnott would have brought size to us and replace Plekanec as center who won't re-sign anyway. Plus it would allow Eller one more year to be ready to take over on a top line.

thats a good point but if you give the team thats interested in him a window to talk to plekanic then it could work out great, anyone else agreee?

It could work for sure, just look at the Dan Hamhuis deal yesterday. Philly gave up a somewhat NHL-proven prospect still in development plus a conditional draft pick for Hamhuis' rights.

Great player with size I would have loved to see as Montreal's second-line center. However, I wouldn't have wanted to give much up for him at this point (not sure who a comparable prospect to Halishuk is).

He is a small fourth round draft pick who will likley never be any kind of impact player at the NHL level...

I wish PG worried about what we needed right now to be a better team next season instead of focusing on dismantly our strenght from last season.

I think we had a team this season that was quite close to finally getting over the hump......

Ultimately a 2 million dollar saving in nets will not make us better next season....It quite frankly doesn't even give us really much cap room.

Moving a some vets like hammer for a late pick, or markov and ak for a big young second line winger would of given us much more cap and much more flexibilty, getting rid of one of Hammer or Markov would have been a better option for us..
