It's been quite a wait (two long years)but it will be nice seeing Jarred playing for the Bulldogs. It sure looks like the Dawgs will be a force to reckon with this season and could be a banner year for the Hamilton fans after a season of futility last year.Tinordi certainly should provide the fans with some bone jarring hits as only a behemoth like he can produce.Go Jarred Go!

It's interesting to note the incredible progression of Tinordi this year. I didn't watch him play, but his stats are very convincing.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=120972

He went from 14 points in 63 games to 16 points in 48 games (whatever). Further, he had 8 points in 19 playoff games, compared to 0 points in 6 playoff games last year.

More impressive than that though, his +/- went from -8 to +39. The year he had a -8, he was among the worst on the team in +/-.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0008142011.html

This year, however, his +39 is the best on the team, and by a mile. For comparison, the 2nd best is +30, 3rd best is +29, 4th best is +27. So he stands out compared to his teammates. Not only that, but he managed to achieve the best +/- in spite of having only played 48 games, compared to the 56-64 games played by the guys behind him. That means his ratio of +/- to games played, a superior statistic than +/- alone, is even more of an outlier.

Before people say that +/- is irrelevant, I'll point out to them that it is relevant when you have the best +/- on your team by a wide margin. If you check nhl stats and you look up players who have the best +/- on their team, they are nearly good players.

The last time I can recall that a Habs prospect dominated +/- in Junior to this extent was PK Subban

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0008202009.html

He led his team in +/- to a comparable extent that Jarred Tinordi did.

I sure hope he puts on a bit of muscle this summer, will take a while to fill out his frame. I'm hoping the staff in Hamilton/Montreal can teach him to skate as well, at his size hell be a force back there, maybe a Tyler Myers or Pronger type player

He's much more rough then Myers and might have a mean streak to match Pronger's... I dont know about him but Mark put up 42 points in a season.. if we can get 25 out of him on average per season I'd be happy.

P.s he's 6'7 218 not 6'6 205

Last year he got 16 PTs. in 48 games, and was a + 39, and in 19 PO games, he got 8 PTs. IMO we need a stud D like him,,,,,,,VERY soon to replace Gill. I hope MB and MT give him every opportunity to make the team this year.

He might just be the most physically mature player out of the bunch I'm just worried about his adjustment to the speed

I would say,,,,,,,somewhat faster than Gill  . seriously tho,,,his father was a pretty much "stay-at-home" D too, and I would suspect the Dad taught him a lot about playing D. Dad was a pretty tough customer, back in the day. Punishing checks, is what I remember about him, Jarred is kinda like Emelin, only taller. :). It's my understanding that his 1st year with the Knights he fought a lot, and in his 2nd year Mark Hunter told him to scale it back, 2.22 MIP,,,compared to his 2nd year at 1.31 MIP

Check this out. :D

Definitely seems to skate a lot better than Gill - that alone has to make him faster. Gill's greatest gift was positioning, but that didnt come right away & its yet another reason not to rush Tinordi. Gill was something of a pylon during his time with the bruins & even the leafs. it wasnt until he had matured as a player in Pittsburg that we started to see the flashes of brilliance he gave us from time to time.

As long as his hockey sense is close to Gill's, Tinordi should be a much more effective player for us (ie a #2 or #3 dman, not a 5-6 guy who is a PK specialist like Gill).

I think we tended to underrate him in Boston and especially Toronto. First few years in Boston were tough but by the end, part of it was reputation. He was solid, especially on the PK. He's always been mistake prone and it stands out to fans but he's the kind of player you appreciate much more when he's on your team and you can watch him closely on a regular basis.

As for Tinordi, his style is not one that should be rushed. I wouldn't be surprised with 2 years minimum in the AHL and maybe 3, he's a better skater than Gill and he plays meaner/tougher which are both nice but he's going to have to slowly adjust to the pro game. I think he'll end up being a better player than Gill but we need to slow play this one, it's just not the type of style that comes quickly, he could stand to fill out a bit more too. Beaulieu plays a type of style that would be more likely to fast track because he can probably play sheltered minutes with PP duty relatively soon in the NHL.

enough with the gill comments.. way to really dream guys.. this guy is the opposite of gill... i dont remember gill laying many people out)lindros) or beating the crap out of anyone.. the only thing they really share in common is size and defensive ability.. other then that theyre not really similar.

1000 post yay

Marc Antoine Godin (@MAGodin)

Defenceman Scott Harrington paid quite a tribute to Jarred Tinordi after being named assistant-captain on Canada junior team. « This morning, when I found out I would be an assistant, Jarred (Tinordi) was the first person that popped into my head. He was an assistant with the American team last year. Jarred is the perfect example of a leader. I was so fortunate to play with him the last two years. I learned so much from him every day, just the way he carries himself, his intensity and the way he competes and the way he puts others before him. There are so many great things I can take from him.

« Over the next couple days, I’ll have to think of the things I can hopefully bring to the team and there are some positive things that he brought to our team that really helped me and other players. I was fortunate to have him as the leader in London for two years and I think first and foremost I will try to model my leadership after him. »

That's quite the accolades from Scott :). It's one thing to hear something good about your abilities from the press, coaches, scouts, etc., but when a peer speaks so well about you, it means a lot more.

Team Canada will have to go up against Tinordi at the WJC.

Please don't hurt any of our Canadiens prospects please.

I was wondering if he was eligible,,,,,,and then, would the Habs release him to go.

Thanks for clearing that up. At least Gally A won't have to worry about getting hit by him. :)

I think he's too old to play in the WJC is he not? Was reading that with Boyce out that Tinordi has been wearing an A for a couple games, not sure if that's temporary though. This kid must have quite the leadership skills

The Dogs are playing tonite,,,so, we'll see if he's there or not.

Still has a ways to go before being NHL ready.

It's funny you say that, I feel he's a little ways away too. Maybe midseason next year and that's at the earliest IMO but right before you said that I read this tweet from Louis Jean of TVA (used to be with Sportsnet)

All indications are that Jarred Tinordi is heading back to AHL. Made great impression. Toughest decision for staff IF he is cut. NHL ready.

I heard some very positive comments about his speed during camp. I'm thinking same timeline as you (possible jump to the bigs some time next season) but I have to say I'm salivating a bit at the thought of a guy his size who can actually skate.

Yeah, I dont think hes NHL ready at all. For all the talk about his skating, in the games in the ahl/training camp ive seen he hasnt looked all that good..making bad decisions, coughing up the puck etc.
