Snow4Habs
Players on waivers among NHL I for one wouldn't mind picking up Cheechoo for our 3rd line, he's on his last year of his 5 year contract. He shoots Right, had a great season with big joe, but had miserable center linemate with Ottawa. I say we could take a chance on him or Kotalik but Kotalik's contract stretches 2 more years of 3m. Manatee-X
Didn't Calgary get Kotalik for Jokinen? And now he's on waivers??? So let me get this straight: Sutter trades Lombardi and if I'm not mistaken one or two others to bring in Jokinen. Not only does he lose those players, Jokinen's salary was one of the reasons they decided that they couldn't sign Cammy last year. Jokinen is then himself traded to the Rangers for Kotalik and Higgens, and now Kotalik is being put on waivers and will possibly be bought out? All told, he basically traded Lombardi, the other players in that deal for Jokinen and Cammalerri for Chris Higgens and six years of Kotalik's buyout counting against the cap. Boy am I ever glad I'm not a Flames fan
The-Future-is-coming
I'd prefer Kotalik as a 3rd line forward
CanadianMike
Kotalik > Cheechoo I don't get what is wrong with Kotalik. He seems to do pretty well wherever he plays. (maybe too soft)?

Boy am I ever glad I'm not a Flames fan Lombardi + Gormley (the 1st round pick) + Vandermeer (since after last year Phoenix traded Prust back to Calgary for Vandermeer) for 4 years 1 million cap hit for Kotalik and the rights to Higgins and a 3rd round pick from Phoenix which they used to move up 4-5 spots in 2009 draft (something like 23 to 19 or something). Obviously a bad deal, but Vandermeer for Prust was a great trade for Calgary at the end of last year, since Vandermeer will be bought out as well most likely. Not that it matters since Calgary got totally hosed in the end, essentially with a decent top 6 forward + a blue chip D prospect going to Phoenix and Calgary is left with a bunch of money against the cap and the rights to a player they probably cant sign since Calgary has no money. I think it's just salary dump. Kotalik play 26 games with the flames and only had 5 points for player who earns 3m for 2 more years.
js2
Cheechoo is done as a hockey player. He's done nothing but decline since his fluke season in '05-06.
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Cheechoo is done as a hockey player. He's done nothing but decline since his fluke season in '05-06. Completely agree. I see no reason to even consider him. Even on reentry waivers I would not consider it. Kotalik is more interesting, but still not really worth the pickup. If we could send salary to Calgary in exchange for Kotalik I would've said, "Maaayyyybbbbeeee," but otherwise, no thanks! Hey, let's do that! Dear Calgary, we would like to trade you Scott Gomez for Ales Kotalik. Deal?

Guest
Both cleared waivers today. Doesnt look like they have any value ( at current contract) to any other team out there.

Snow4Habs
What if we trade AK, SK for Cheechoo and grab 2011 1st round pick and nhl ready prospect? We'd clear enough cap space when Cheechoo contracts expires for next season. We'd get a 1st round pick in return or prospect who's NHL ready. I'd use Cheechoo's low value get more in return.
