maximus123
interesting, i didnt think we would be able to get anyone for Sergei so im not mad at the trade Boyd is only 23 and im guessing Ellis might very well become our #2 goaltender
SteenIsThaFuture
Both Boyd and Ellis are expiring contracts. Boyd's a RFA, Ellis a UFA.

Boyd's a RFA, Ellis a UFA. yes but the habs now have ellis and boyd's rights so it is probable they will sign with them ellis as backup and boyd as 2nd or 3rd line center

flames4eva
Wow... one for one (Sergei for Dustin Boyd) not a bad trade... Ellis is UFA so the Habs will still have to sign him and Boyd is RFA... wonder what his current status is (like did he recieve a qualifying offer from either team yet?) I hope Ellis is not the 'Veteran backup' we have been looking for hehe. Boyd...I know his name, but can't remember how he plays or what he looks like lol. still..GOOD TRADE! leafer4lifer1
If PG can sign Price and Ellis quickly ill be extremely happy with the trade. Boyd isnt the greatest but could replace Moore/Metro. Either way im happy cause he didnt pull a BG and let him go for nothing. We are already seeing the huge difference between the 2 GM's! Habs-101
I like this trade, I think our third line will be this; Patches - Eller - Boyd All over 6' and all under 23, could all crash and bang and all pot 10-20 goals a piece, pretty decent young line! maximus123
i cant believe that at first i had mixed dustin boyd and dustin brown from the kings, that sounded like the steal of the century
flames4eva
i wonder what the futures are Futures could be if one, two or all sign with their respective teams perhaps.
fourtrax
Boyd's arrival might spell the end for Dominic Moore. Ellis is interesting. Gauthier wouldn't have traded for his rights unless he was reasonably certain of being able to re-sign him at an affordable price. What's intriguing about Ellis is that he's only 30 and someone who will definitely push Carey to excel, rather than being clearly just a backup goalie. gracie12
very interesting. Boyd for SK would be fine by me. A 2 day head start on Ellis is a nice throw in, although i would have though Biron was more up our alley (more experienced, older, less likely to still want a #1 spot). I presume the "futures" would be a pick or prospect, depending upon whether we sign Ellis or not. I am curious if this means AK stays or not. Some say he plays better or worse when his brother is or isnt around - maybe moving him away completely removes the distraction & AK can finally get his head screwed on straight. He's got a hell of a lot of talent after all.

I like this move, although its a bit surprising to me - it felt like they were giving Carey the reigns...Ellis would make one think "you still have to earn it, kid." FlipBoy
It's so ironic. Last year, going into free agency, I said to myself: "Why do I see Cammalleri here by this October with a Habs jersey?" And then a few days ago: "Ellis as a back-up, I really want to see that, seems plausible." Wow.
fourtrax
You mean like the way Holmgren did with Hamhuis then nabakov? Word is Ellis sees himself as a starter isn't it? Well, I'm not saying Ellis is a lock to sign here. I'm just saying that you don't normally trade for a soon-to-be UFA unless you're confident of being able to re-sign him. Ellis can see himself as a starter all he wants. He didn't play much last year and will have to take a cheap contract just to find NHL employment with all the quality goalies floating around. If he signs and his play warrants becoming the starter, that's another story.
