Habs Trade Sergei Kostitsyn To Nashville

Recommended Posts

yes but the habs now have ellis and boyd's rights so it is probable they will sign with them

ellis as backup and boyd as 2nd or 3rd line center

I could see Boyd signing but I believe Ellis will be looking for a starters position so will test free agency and see what comes of it.

Boyd's arrival might spell the end for Dominic Moore. Ellis is interesting. Gauthier wouldn't have traded for his rights unless he was reasonably certain of being able to re-sign him at an affordable price. What's intriguing about Ellis is that he's only 30 and someone who will definitely push Carey to excel, rather than being clearly just a backup goalie.

You mean like the way Holmgren did with Hamhuis then Nabakov? ;) Word is Ellis sees himself as a starter isn't it?

very interesting.

Boyd for SK would be fine by me. A 2 day head start on Ellis is a nice throw in, although i would have though Biron was more up our alley (more experienced, older, less likely to still want a #1 spot).

I presume the "futures" would be a pick or prospect, depending upon whether we sign Ellis or not.

I am curious if this means AK stays or not. Some say he plays better or worse when his brother is or isnt around - maybe moving him away completely removes the distraction & AK can finally get his head screwed on straight. He's got a hell of a lot of talent after all.

Agreed on Both counts. I like this move, although its a bit surprising to me - it felt like they were giving Carey the reigns...Ellis would make one think "you still have to earn it, kid." ;)

I like this trade, I think our third line will be this;

Patches - Eller - Boyd

All over 6' and all under 23, could all crash and bang and all pot 10-20 goals a piece, pretty decent young line!

Agreed. Im leaning more and more towards a "kid line" like they used to have in Edmonton...

Well, I'm not saying Ellis is a lock to sign here. ;) I'm just saying that you don't normally trade for a soon-to-be UFA unless you're confident of being able to re-sign him.

Ellis can see himself as a starter all he wants. He didn't play much last year and will have to take a cheap contract just to find NHL employment with all the quality goalies floating around. If he signs and his play warrants becoming the starter, that's another story.
