Maybe the real Tomas Jagr (if he was a minor-hockey Czech or Slovakian kid) would like to become, eventually, a Hab draft pick, and later player, after seeing the fake Tomas Jagr (really Pleks) play. With a lot of luck, that player would have a similar style to Plekanec but be a bigger player.

Plekanec was the 21st NHL center for points in 2007-08, the 67th in 2008-09, and he was 14th in 2009-10. He was also 15th among NHL centers for goals scored last year.

He is the real deal. A legitimate first line center and we have him for 6 more years, and unlike Koivu who spent his prime years passing the puck to Jan Bulis and Richard Zednik, Plekanec will be playing on a line with Cammalleri.

+ his health is solid. In last 4 years he missed ONLY in 4 games of regular season ;)

Few interesting notes from the meeting in Prague (I wasn't there so correct me Roy33 the legend if I'm getting this wrong)..

Tomas on captaincy: Gionta, maybe Gill, but he's got only a year left on his contract

on the Philly series: we were all dead tired, hard to play with a depleted roster

on Halak: no surprise (!)

Interesting. I'd rather have plek's as captain. Brought him up in our system, plays his heart out. I think he would be a great choice as our next captain. I'm also really excited to see how he plays with cammalleri next year should be awesome :D

i have to say that i have been a life long habs fan, but only started watching games and spending time on this message board around the time pleky started playing for us, id i would love to give the C to some home grown tallent, however cammi may diserve it, does anyone think being a home grown player gives a player the edge to captancy? in my mind, pleky is our true number one center as i see his line being more productive then gomez pouliout and gionta..espically if they can get a true RW or have ak46 play to his potential..any thoughts?

1) I don't think being home grown talent gives Plekanec any real edge over the rest of his teammates for the C. In the end, even if you have someone who's only been here for a year, if he's more of a leader than Pleky, then he probably gets the C

2) As far as I'm concerned, Pleky is a better player than Gomez. The only thing that's stopping him from having a real breakout season is AK. If they replace him, or if he finally gets his groove on, we could see Plekanec pass 90, or maybe even 100 points

On paper, I think Gomez is more talented. He may be one of the 2 or 3 best passers in the NHL. However, his complete aversion to ANY traffic hampers his game severely. Part of me still thinks that a guy like like Moen on his wing could work wonders. Problem is that Gio isnt quite prolific enough to make him and gomez an effective 1-2 line. They need a finisher on the other wing. I have a sneaking suspicion that Eller could be that guy - although fairness to pouliot: he was for a stretch of 15 or so games. With that finisher and health for all 3, gomez could still have a big scoring season - possibly more than pleks (although I would argue pleks would still be a more effective all-round player).

As for Pleks, he has it all - he plays a very solid 2 way game, has good hands and good vision. Remember that at the midway point last year he was 2nd in assists and points in the entire NHL - only a few back from Sedin, who finished with 112pts. Im not saying that Pleks can do that, but if he can maintain his strong play for 82 games (aided greatly by a healthy Mike Cammalleri and another winger who can produce 50+pts) then it is possible to break 80 imho. 90 or 100 might be a stretch, (especially considering that we have 2 lines that both want and need ice time) but you never know.

(I cant seem to be able to edit my old post, so I gotta make a double post :S)

In the playoffs, Moen-Gomez-Gionta didn't do bad. Gionta, like you said, isn't prolific enough to do it himself, but I don't see a huge difference, in terms of scoring ability, between him and Cammalleri. The only difference between the 2 is that Gionta has Gomez, who is almost strictly a playmaker, and Cammalleri has Plekanec, who puts in 20, minimum, a year.

About your Eller theory, I don't know. The way I see it, Eller would sooner take the wing on Pleky's line. I figure either Pouliot finds his touch again or JM does something wild by throwing AK on that line and having it work.

I don't see 90, or floating below it, too unlikely. The first 2 months or so, the team still wasn't completely gelling, and Markov was out, which hampered the team even more. I think that, if Cammalleri can stay healthy all year, and either AK finds his game/is replaced by Eller or anyone else who will be scoring, 90 isn't that far off. 100, yeah, maybe, but not 90, the way I see it.
