On paper, I think Gomez is more talented. He may be one of the 2 or 3 best passers in the NHL.

On paper, Gomez has never had more than 54 points in a season, and he's averaged 0.62 assists per game in the last five seasons, which were his prime years whereas now he is leaving his prime years.

However, an emerging Pouliot will complete that line.

Actually, Gomez has only once been under 54 points, and that was in 01-02, when he had 48

Now, if you meant assists, he's passed 54 in 03-04 with 56, but that was the only time.

Regardless, I still think Plekanec is, or will be, if he isn't already, the better center, and our number 1 center going into the future

i have to agree, when i think of our number one line, i would say it is pleky cammi and ak46, although id love to see gionta in his place, any thoughts on that?

We'll likely start the year with this..

Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Cammalleri

Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta

And I think we'll probably end up with this...

Eller - Plekanec - Cammalleri

AK - Gomez - Gionta

It's so crazy...it just might work.

isint cammi a LW/C? i suppose eller is a natural c so he could just play the RW..i think it's possible, i just dont see kostitsyn havin enough to hold his spot

You can't split up Gomez and Gionta, they play too well together.

thats a good point, something i didnt consider

I think we're jumping the gun a lil... We haven't even seen Eller in pre-season play and already he's taking Andrei's spot on the 2nd line.

Andrei had a lot of distractions last season due to his brother, he deserves the benefit of the doubt... This will be his 2nd chance, he's obviously going to be on a short leash.

Maybe both Andrei Kostitsyn and Benoit Pouliot should play on the second line with the second line center... and that's Gomez IMO... at least statistically

I think it's time to give Plekanec the best offensive players to work with... and that to me is Cammalleri and Gionta. The Habs could have a true No. 1 line if they did that IMO.

Pouliot on the left with Kostitsyn playing euro style right-wing with Gomez' playmaking ability and speed may be a surprise combination that should be tried.

I think DA meant Gomez has never had more than 54 assists in a season (Still wrong, but closer)

2010-11 season preview - Tomas Plekanec

Thursday, 02.09.2010 / 3:00 PM / News

canadiens.com

MONTREAL – Tomas Plekanec is in Montreal to stay and that’s no accident.

Just a few weeks from the start of training camp and busy training in the Czech Republic, Plekanec is ready to pick up where he left off last season when he piled up a career-best and team-high 70 points.

“I’m ready to go. I’ve been on the ice with my local team here since August,” said Plekanec from his home in Kladno. “I didn’t change much this summer and stuck with my same preparation since last season went pretty well for me.”

That’s putting it mildly. Despite staring down the barrels of unrestricted free agency and coming off an un-Pleky-like 39-point haul in 2008-09, Plekanec erupted with a .37 points-per-game increase, the ninth biggest bump in the NHL last season just ahead of the Sedin twins.

Armed with his new six-year deal and with the weight of the world now off Plekanec’s shoulders, how could the 27-year-old center not be breathing a sigh of relief heading into his ninth NHL campaign?

“Anyone who thinks I’m going to sit back and relax now that I have a long-term deal doesn’t know me very well,” warned Plekanec. “The contract won’t change anything for me. Last season was last season. It won’t matter once this season starts. I’ll have to prove myself all over again. We all will.”

While much of the offseason talk has been about the Canadiens’ goaltending situation, Plekanec has another key to the team’s season on his mind heading into camp.

“Having Andrei [Kostitsyn] bounce back will be huge for this team. We need him to play at the top of his game,” explained Plekanec, who has almost exclusively played with Kostitsyn over the last two seasons. “I know what Andrei can do and we shouldn’t forget that he was injured last year. If he can come back strong, we’ll have two scoring lines and be even more dangerous this year.”

With pundits everywhere penciling in the Habs for yet another dog fight for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, Plekanec sees it as business as usual for the Canadiens.

“To me it’s all about what the 22 guys in the room think,” affirmed the centerman, who has kept in touch with a few of his teammates over the summer like his wingman Michael Cammalleri. “We saw last year the way our group came together. People can make all the predictions they want, but the season still has to be played. We know we can do it and it’s up to us to build on what we accomplished last year. I believe in this group and these guys are all that matters to me.

“Being overlooked again is just more motivation for us,” continued Plekanec. “We’re used to proving people wrong. The experience we gained from the playoffs was amazing. People on the outside have no idea how big that was for us. We’re a different team now.”

No one here to say how wells he plays

No one here even though it's here he stays

I think Pleks is taken for granted

I think he's the best she ranted

The first preseason game an assist and a goal

Pleks is the reason he has the soul

No one works harder then him

Even when it comes to the gym

I love this guy I think he's hot

And he has one hell of a shot

He got us where we are today

My god that boy can really play

Pleks is the player I love the best

I think he has so much zest

So I appreciate you Tomas I think your great

So will the rest just you wait

GO PLEKS GO :D :D

on the post-game radio show last night they were talking about how pleks was the captain last night because of how he dealt with the price debacle. anyone know what he said to the media? i missed it.

ps. great game but i expect nothing less. ;)

He basically said the same things that Cammalleri, Gill and Gorges said but in Pleki words ;)

Mike boone: Best player in a white jersey: Tomas Plekanec. Scored again and skated all night. Pleks is making that contract look awfully good.

He was also the best player in a red jersey Wednesday against Boston. Super Pleki seems ready for the real stuff. Keep up the good work Tomas :)
