fourtrax
#46 Andrei Kostitsyn Bio Stats Video Draft QUOTE LIBRARY "I really believe he's a player that's going to help us, who we need," said Martin. "No different from some other players." nhl.com "Even on the bench, I feel he's very interested in the game," said Plekanec. "He's talking and he's into it. He wants to play well. Hopefully he can keep it up and we'll have a strong line." TSN.ca preseason game recap, Habs-Islanders 2 October 2010 "He has a lot of tools. He can beat you with his speed, his shot, his strength. He's got a great overall game." Brian Gionta "Andrei is playing great. He's way more involved, driving to the net so hard. He's a big part of our line this year and you can tell our line is much stronger with him playing the way he is." Tomas Plekanec -The Gazette, 18 October 2010 “He’s got such a dynamic skill set and he’s doing things right all over the ice, it’s paying off and that’s nice to see. I think we all know what he’s capable of and his level of focus is where it needs to be. He’s been consistently good, he’s playing at the top of his game and it’s fun playing with him.” Michael Cammalleri - canadiens.com 23 october 2010
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
I sure hope Martin is right (referencing the quote section above). I have a feeling we start the season with Andrei on the roster and hopefully he has a good start, 'cause we're going to need it. The team is not deep in offensive prospects ready to take the reigns and if Andrei can give us just one more season of reasonable output it could go a long way to getting us into the post-season. S-Bah
Andrei can be a great player, he struggles with consistency however.Let's hope that is in the past and he can reach the lofty plateaus people have set for him. When his shooting is on there is no better sniper I can think of except Ovechkin.
Ryoukai
I've always liked AK, and I think he has it in him to break through like many expected he would. I think I read in last year's thread that he's putting on some weight this summer, that would be nice. He's already deceptively strong, having some more weight on him would make him that much stronger. I just hope it doesn't affect his skating. On last year's performance though, I wonder how much of it was having Cammalleri on his line. Not to knock Cammy, I love the guy, but I felt in the few years past that Kovalev commanded enough attention to let Pleks and AK have some more time and space. I'm not sure Cammalleri initially had the same influence. Of course, Plekanec played very well last season, and barring the knee injury I think AK would have hit the at least mid 20s for goals. I'd like to see him start with the same line this year as after last season, and the playoffs, I'm sure Cammalleri will garner a lot more attention. Here's hoping that he gets a few bounces at the start of the season and then stays healthy. If he can play up to his capabilities, I can see the Pleks Cammy AK line tearing it up. Last season he was not moving well. He looked sluggish. Rarely was he blowing by guys in the neutral zone like he had before.

Rarely was he blowing by guys in the neutral zone like he had before. I agree, he doesn't seem to be as explosive as he used to. He definitely looked like he's lost a step in terms of skating last year, I remember him being faster and easily capable of skating by defenders at full speed. The beauty he scored against Atlanta a few years back comes to mind.
roy_133
We've talked about him breaking out for years, it hasn't happened. Now he's on the cusp of losing his spot in this organization. If he's as inconsistent and unproductive as he was last season then he's going to be gone, probably before the end of the year too. It's a shame but hockey sense is atleast as important a tool as skating, shooting ability and strength and he just doesn't seem to have it. Sure, sometimes he doesn't make the easy play, but the only real problem is effort I find.

I can't remember much from early in the season but the latter parts of it, I figured his injury was playing into his reduced speed. I did notice he seemed weaker on his skates than before. I guess then it depends, for me at least, on if he can bring his skating back up. I'm all for the added strength, but not at the expense of speed. Yes you're right there greater hockey minds than ours have deemed him necessary to the team,so I'll take their actions as being good for the team. Agreed, but if he stays healthy and gets his normal share of top-six minutes, I have a hard time seeing how he could fare as poorly as he did last season, where everything that could go wrong did go wrong on a given play. Statistically, you have to think things will even out and Andrei will come back up to 20+ goals and 45-50 points.

dfrancis
Well Andrei, this is it. I reckon you have about 15 games to start producing, or people will be calling for your head. There will be people calling for your head before puckdrop of Game 1. Prove them wrong, because you sure as hell haven't proven any of the nay sayers wrong. Ever. I'm really hoping he can pull it together this year, and finally break out, but I'm not holding my breath.

When his shooting is on there is no better sniper I can think of except Ovechkin. I am not sure anymore if Andrei can be a great player. Comparing him to Ovy is rediculous. Can you get me some of what you are smoking. Let's see how he starts the season and try to dump him if he stinks. What a waste of a #10 pick! Habcup
I disagree about the hockey sense comment. Sure, sometimes he doesn't make the easy play, but the only real problem is effort I find. Hockey sense, effort , brother or pee in his diapers, the botom line is he is flawed and won't likely be much of an NHL player.
