S-Bah
I disagree. You can't just give the guy money. He's going to remain a RFA when his current deal expires. I believe he may have arbitration rights (I'm not 100% sure on that), but we need to maintain a firm hand while negotiating. Montreal is, IMO, harder against the cap then they should be based on the talent we have. I think we have a handful of contracts on the books (Thanks Bob Gainey) that have put us in a bad cap situation. Until that's resolved in a few seasons we need to negotiate hard with our current RFAs, and that means Josh. I would take a firm approach with Josh on a short-term deal unless he wants to sign long-term for reasonable money... But I'm not sure how likely that will be. I'm sure Josh Gorges wants to stay are you kidding the way he plays shot blocking,he wants to be in Montreal and win the Cup like the rest of the Habs. hatethosebruins
I'd give him 2-3 years at 2-2.75 mill a year He's a consistent player who can log in steady mins and play every game of the season, goes out and does his job well every night blocks shots, plays well in his zone and is a great guy to have on the team both on and off the ice
ruuvimeisseli
Il give him a 2 year deal 1st year, 1 750 000, 2nd year, 2 150 000. Hes a number 5 D man who can play top 4 minutes occaisonally should get around what im offering, he is an rfa. Anymore then that say goodbye. Bean-Counting-Hab
All the "in for a big raise" stuff has been mostly in the Montreal media and in the Montreal fan community. I think PG gets him re-signed to a reasonable deal and we'll all be happy. In his limited time as GM, PG has already set a precedent that he does not overpay for depth players. (Which is basically the oposite of Gainey).

leafer4lifer1
Think there's any chance of him not resigning because he wants to be top 4? He definitely has the skill so maybe he will feel he deserves to be moved up.
Nashtak
He's not top 4 on paper, but he is one of our most used player in the past 2 years. Don't see why he would complain.

S-Bah
Josh is a team player, watching him play says volumes for his work and dedication to the Habs. Each of the defencemen get relief this week when Hamrlik and Markov rejoin the Habs, now the real season gets underway. Montreal Canadiens play after both Hammer and Marky are in the Lineup will have everybodies attention as their play propels them into the elite few. The Penguins had already put Montreal on their short list of teams they hate, that list is going to grow as the season progresses.

(Which is basically the oposite of Gainey). This. Frankly, I think Bob Gainey is too nice to be an effective GM. As a captain he led by example & the players followed suit. As a GM he seemed determined to give each person what they felt they were worth and that ultimately hurts the team. PG seems much in tune with "whats best for the team" and Im happy with pretty much everything he's done so far. No GM is flawless, but the moves he's made have been logical and methodical and that makes me excited about the future. Josh seems to love it in montreal and I would be quite surprised if we dont resign him.

RSD
Get outta here with that kind of bonehead play in overtime. Don't jump into your goalies crease as he's trying to make a save and cover the puck. Are you serious with that kind of stuff??
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Why are people all over Gorges? He didn't do anything wrong as far as I can see on the game-winning-goal. He's been very reliable through the first three games and wasn't at fault during the crease-scramble on the last goal. If anything it was Gill who skated right through Carey's stick and glove while he was trying to smother the puck.

Gill loses his man as Halpern knocks his man on Price too, for reasons unknown, and we know the result...
