Disappointed with his season last year. I guess I was expecting he Travis Moen I saw win the cup with the ducks. Don't know he didn't have THAT fire that he had (the fire that Lapierre had in the playoffs).

we want more from you Travis...go go go!!

;) ... showed some fire there ... but more of that would be nice ... he did have some nice shorties last season though ... but yeah, id like to notice him more in the regular season, in a good way ...

On topic, a few less "vanilla" games from Travis next season, please.

Moen came with a lot of promise that fans would love him and that he hit and played with energy. But while he played several good games last year, he never really did anything that stood out. He is an average skater, not awful for a bigger man but not fast either. It seems to me he plays like other big men play in Montreal... like little guys. I don't know if it's that our top players are always small and the bigger guys try to fit into their style, but Moen needs to go out and play his own game. He needs to hit more, he needs to go to the net with more authority, and he needs to play with more of an edge. I found a similar thing happened to guys like Lats, Pouliot, Pacioretty, Laraque... they all seemed to play a more physical game when they first arrived but then stopped hitting consistently after a while. Lapierre is one of the few guys who still seems to try to take the body and go to the net, even after a couple of years of being here. Moen on the other hand seems content with playing a sound positional game but he needs to do more than that to warrant a spot here in my opinion.

Would like for that reason to see him start the year on the 4th line with Boyd and Darche (or White). Boyd will hopefully bring some new energy and grit, and darche always plays hard. Moen can fill in for Pouliot when he is playing poorly and he can play the PK so he'll still get some minutes.

This is something that concerns me too. Hamrlik was more physical when he arrived. Komisarek the Habs seemed to let walk although I agree with that move. But O'Byrne was in the doghouse too. Ryan White was sent down quickly. Stewie never had a chance.

It's like a team theme to curb the physical play.

Although I have no bone to pick with Travis Moen, I don't believe we will see anymore of these deals under the new G.M. Pierre doesn't seem willing to hand out $1.5 million, three-year deals to energy guys.

I don't really have a problem with 1.5 for him, considering similar players out there get a lot more for similar roles. Samuel Pahlsson is getting 2.6 million in Columbus and Manny Malhotra is getting 2.5 in Vancouver and John Madden was getting 2.75 million in Chicago. All are similar players and are usefull (I love Manny from his CBJ days), but none is worth that kind of money. 1.5 million might not look great to us, but it's certainly not too bad.

I'd say all of three of those guys are probably over paid, but they are also some of the better shutdown guys around. I like Moen, but I wouldn't consider him a true shutdown guy/checking forward.

Good player but I hope he has more to bring this season.

Definitely a team player, does whatever is asked of him. Whether it is checking or time on the 2nd line filling in on injuries etc. The Habs of old had many such players with the ability to slip into whichever spot the coach slotted them.

Way too much hype before he had skated a game with the Habs

No question of his work ethic, but the quickness of the game has changed and he'll need all his experience to outsmart younger and faster guns.

Yes they did, but not all took it well... There are several versions of this, but Lafleur didn't react well when he was asked to do 3rd line duties-He retired.

Moen hasn't scored much, but he's also alone in the physical department, we can't expect him to do everything. Be nice to have another tough guy to give him a hand.

Lafleur was told/pressured to retire. no?

Moen needs to play with more edge. It's that simple.

hope he plays with the offensive spark from the playoffs but still stands in for the other players with his checking (I think i saw it in a columbus game he made a huge hit after a hab got nailed) but not sure how much longer he will be around in Montreal once his contracts up

I think he was brought in to teach the other pluggers how to forecheck and finish checks, and if possible add a few goals. The way they played in the playoffs that seems to have worked.
