#31 Carey Price 2010-11

My reply is a made up (a speculation because we can not prove it) statement that is a response to similar made up (false...) reply. Both have smiley faces at the end. I should have used sarcasm tags to be more clear. :)

How is his statement made up? There was reported somewhere that the Blues called for Price first.

Yeah, sure. It's not like the team in front of him can affect his performance one way or another, right? I guess when he loses a bunch of 2-1 or 2-0 games, it'll be because he didn't work hard enough over the summer.

especially if Halak is winning the 1-0 and 2-1 games in St Louis

St. Louis is a different team. Obviously there will be nights when we'll need Carey to stand on his head, but if I see what I saw last year -- the team squandering good performances by Carey through a pathetic inability to score goals -- I am not going to blame Carey one bit.

Also, I doubt Jaro is going to hold teams to one or fewer goals very often. That's just not a realistic expectation for any goalie in today's NHL for more than a small game sample.

Price is either going to suck or be amazing next year. He'll suck if he makes no adjustments over the summer and does the same-old-same-old with his training. He'll be amazing if he is working super super hard in the off season and has a determination level on par with Rocky Balboa.

Why deal with 2 extremes? I'd say it's more likely that he doesn't suck and isn't amazing. If he comes with a level of performance worthy of a .910-.915 SV% has he sucked? Has he been amazing?

Often, it's not the 2 extremes.

I hear people saying the team in front of him just doesn't score when he's in or doesn't play for him, and people saying he has to improve his work ethics. For two years in a row, last year and the year before ( two almost completely different teams ) didn't play for Carey. Maybe it's his attitude that is the biggest problem, there really has to be a reason the team tries harder for Jaro than Carey and that's what makes the most sense. So, since we're stuck with him for now, let's hope he changes his attitude alot this summer and gets the team behind him. Oh and before anyone brings up him calling out Sergei, wich is really the kettle calling the pot black. He had no right to be calling anyone out until he proved he had straightened out first. Those are just my thoughts though.

what if he has a record of 38 wins with a sv% of .905 and a gaa of 2.88 ... then is he amazing or does he suck?? on the flip side...what if he only his 20wins but puts up a sv% of .918 and a gaa of 2.33 ... what then?? price can only control so much ... he could have a wicked year and habs can miss the playoffs ... he could have a really garbage year and the habs could finish 5th in the conference ... price just needs to be average to good ... the rest of the team needs to pull its weight too and we will be ok ... if we're going to rely on one player all season we're screwed anyways ...

You are making an assumption there. We can agree that the team played better in front of Jaro than Carey this year, but you are making the assumption that it was based on work ethic, or effort. IMHO there are no facts to support this. I didnt see anybody "trying" less - things just didnt work the same way in front of carey that they did in front of Jaro.

One can argue that Jaro's style was better suited to the scrambling and running around we often found ourselves doing in our own defensive zone. Or perhaps he was better at seeing the crowd through traffic, etc.

I think the conspiracy theories about the team actually intentionally playing better in front of Jaro vs. Carey have been way overblown.

this theory makes no sense ... honestly, i dont know why people buy into it ... look at how the team played in front of jaro going into the playoffs we couldnt win to secure a spot ... we lost our way into the playoffs ... our team hit a hot streak and halak hit a hot streak for 2 rounds and the fire ran out and we got blown out of the water ... so did jaro all of a sudden develop an attitude and the team stopped playing in front of him?? oh god forbid that theory applies to halak ... so when it happened to halak it was oh the team was tired clearly ... well it happened more than once in front of halak during the season too ... "attitude" ... if price had this "attitude" that everyone likes to talk about he wouldnt have been out there on the ice practicing his pads off with the rest of the scratches every day during the playoffs ... he would have pulled a sergei kostitsyn and walked off the ice ...

there is no attitude ... there might be frustration when a goal goes in, but ive been on this forum and if price shows hes angry people who want to put him down say "oh what a bad attitude he needs to grow up" and when he shows no reaction they say "he doesnt care about the team he doesnt even care when a goal goes in" hes damned if he does and damned if he doesnt ... this theory that the habs played harder in front of halak isnt fact ... just because we won with halak in net more than price doesnt prove anything ... halak had a great season ... but down the stretch we sucked ... and in the conference finals ... we sucked ... from cammy and gionta to gill and georges and yes, even halak sucked ... thats the truth to it ... does it mean i dont respect what halak did for the team and how he played in the first two rounds? no ... i was right in there praising him ... but i call it like it is ... and when halak came out of the "zone" ... he couldnt get back in ... we almost missed the playoffs and that was with halak getting the majority of the starts from jan onward btw ...

so no, price will be fine ... our team will be fine ... if they can all click and get it together, play 60 minutes of hockey as a team ... i'd even settle for 48minutes ... together ... as a team ... goalie outward ... we will be ok ...

Does your "." button automatically triple itself, or is that intentional? It makes for a very difficult to read post.

With the shrunk pads the 30-win season with a GAA of 2.77 and a SV% of 0.906 would be more likely than a 30-win season with a GAA of 2.34 and a SV% of 0.917. Because the shrunk pads would yield one more goal every couple of games or so.

shrunken pads dont affect every goalie ... price's would likely stay the same because of his height and halak's will shrink because he's shorter

I have reservations about the Halak deal.

I have reservations about the goaltender we picked up to replace Halak.

But, Carey is a year older, wiser and hopefully has matured.

Right now, it's all speculation. Why don't we wait til the season starts before we throw the kid under the bus. Who knows, last year was a very humbling experience for him. He had to sit on the bench and watch as Jaro basked in the glory. I'm hoping that the time he spent riding the pine, will motivate him. It has to be hard watching your teammate being the playoff hero, when a year 1/2 before, you were the one in the spotlight.

Carey knows what he has to do... I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Go Carey... Here's your chance kid!

Now show all the doubter's why you were picked 5th overall.

Go Habs-Go Price!

i agree, we'll see what he's made of this season ... he saw what it's like to win during the playoffs and get past the first round ... if he wants to play in a big market like montreal, he will use that as motivation ... he will say to himself, i want that to be me and i want to go further ... so we shall see :)

When I said that shrunken pads would yield one more goal every couple of games or so, it actually is a variable number. It would probably take more games for Price to let in one more goal than it would take Halak because of his size and how his size affects his non-pad saves.

Before Halak was traded, I saw some Blues fans saying that, since Price was drafted 5th overall, he was to be compared to the likes of Luongo or Lundqvist rather than to be compared to Mason.

I think alot of people get the misconception that if you're drafted in the top 5 they're automatically going to be stars. Price is a long way away from being like Luongo or Lundqvist who are true #1 goaltenders. Habs management is under that same misconception about Price even when Halak proved otherwise.

It's a horrible move even without baseless facts

I have a feeling Price will hold out for more money PG doesn't have the upper hand any longer. I'd be shocked if some team would give him an offer sheet.

he has to sign eventually ... or hold out for the whole season ... which would be career suicide as hes only 22/23 ... we hold his rights ... hes not arbitration eligible ... so they're probably just negotiating term ... maybe montreal wants him 2-3/4 years and he only wants 1 and then wants to get the hell out of montreal as soon as he can, it might not be money, it could always be that price just doesnt want to play for fans who dont want him there ... he doesnt owe montreal anything anyways, we wont know until he signs ... laps was hoping to get more term, its not always about the money
