I1IscottieI1I
but supposedly everyone wants Carey, so why wouldn't he get an offer sheet or 3? because everyone wants him but not everyone can have him. I mean most teams already have their starter and if they don't they don't have the cap space to add Price without trading someone first. I can't think of a team that has enough cap space to want to give price an offer sheet that montreal couldn't match.

viperhockey
If I were a GM of another team in the east that had cap space......and knowing that Habs don't have a Great back up any longer.... I might force them to match an offer or lose Price. Sometimes these offer sheets can simply make a team not be able to keep other players down the road or sign free agents. Take New Jersey for instance......(not that lou would)........ but they could, since broduer is aging and has only a couple seasons left on his contract.....make an offer for Price for 2 seasons (thus making him still a RFA) of 4.6 million a season..... The habs would then have to match or walk. They don't have that much cap space, so PG has to either trade another roster asset away (thus weakening the hab lineup) or lose Price and have to go with Auld and Sandford (Dejardins). Then Jersey could groom Price as the next in line properly and play him 30 - 35 games for 2 years behind the best goalie (or 2nd to Roy). Then when Price is still an RFA, they can have dumped Broduer (retires) or at least signed him for a back up at a 1.5 million dollar contract. It would not be a bad ploy to force the habs into a pickle. Ofcourse New Jersey also has already signed hedberg, so this won't happen....... catt-_mtlc
but supposedly everyone wants Carey, so why wouldn't he get an offer sheet or 3? I just don't see a team giving up picks for Price when there are quite a few goaltenders that are UFA's like Raycroft, Theodore, Turco, and Emery. While those goalies might not have the upside and potential that Price has they come at a cheaper price than a RFA would (draft pick wise). Also any offer sheet on Price would be matched so why would another GM bother?
viperhockey
Also any offer sheet on Price would be matched so why would another GM bother? Only to force them to pay more than they would like to, to use up some of their caps space thus limit them from improving themselves in other areas via free agents or trades. jst-onge
Knowone is going to offer Price an offer sheet there are to many goalies that are still available and for cheeper. Signing an offer sheet would mean MTL could let him go and the team signing him would have to pay compinsation. Price could sign for only one year he would still be a RFA next year but with arbitration rights. PG is in no rush as long as it is done by Sept. roy_133
Offer sheets are very rare and I'm almost positive no goalie has ever been offered one. It's not a factor.
Alastair_LighT
Why deal with 2 extremes? I'd say it's more likely that he doesn't suck and isn't amazing. If he comes with a level of performance worthy of a .910-.915 SV% has he sucked? Has he been amazing? Often, it's not the 2 extremes. Mark my words. He either sucks or is amazing. There is no hope of a middle ground for Carey Price.

cyoungerrr
In Stu Cowan's article of July 12 in the gazette, he muses While it was Gauthier who pulled the trigger on the trade, I have a feeling Gainey's fingerprints are also on the gun. While Gainey stepped down as GM, he remains with the Canadiens as a consultant and you have to wonder if Gauthier didn't want to stab his former boss in the back with his first major move by going against him and dealing away the "thoroughbred." I guess I'm not alone in this "baseless" belief. Sure it can't be proven, but it is consistent with what has happened with Price over and over - that of being handed the #1 job without earning it. Someone belittled this idea because they can't imagine Gauthier/Gainey doing something detrimental to the team just to feed their own egos, but they are sio blinded by their egos that they actually think what they are doing is right for the team. Mathradio
If, by any chance, there was an English-speaking, Habs fan with a journalism degree on this board, maybe that one could attempt to contact The Gazette with potential articles pertaining to the Habs.
