Tom Pyatt

Recommended Posts

Supported this guy from the start. Love his hustle and defensive play. I think he has more offensive ability than we have actually seen so far....maybe we will see more of it this coming season.

One of my friends got his jersey...must be one of the first ones to own a Pyatt jersey.

He'll be more than just a 4th line grinder this season like many here have stated.

Martin really likes him and he's more than just an energy guy since he can play defense, kill penalties and skate so yeah he'll likely be a 3rd liner. He's not a 0 offensively but he's not going to be a top 6 guy IMO.

His ceiling is a 3rd liner, he has room to grow and get even better in that role though.

Tom scored what 5 points in 40 games last season. What do you think we'll get out of him in a full season? 15+ points?

Anything over 15 points would be great... He's a third liner at best, but really puts his heart into it. I can see him hitting the 15 point mark this season... That is if he plays.

Don't have a clue about the points in a season as depends on ice time, injuries, linemates and coaches expectations.

Really impressed by the composure of Pyatt during the playoffs, and look forward to him getting better.Martin showed confidence in him and he delivered.

I'd like to see Pyatt aim for more than 15 points. Yes he's young and yes he's going to play more of a defensive role, but I think he'll get decent minutes and likely play on the third line at least some of the year. He seems to be a smart player and a decent skater and I'd like to see him take advantage of that. I don't see why he can't contribute the same way we'd like to see Max Lapierre contribute and put up 25 points or so. The Habs need to develop more scoring depth, and I think the guys who emerge on the third line this year need to be able to contribute at least 10 goals each. If Pyatt ends up playing sparingly on the 4th line, I'd accept less output from him, but the Habs have accepted poor offensive production from the third line guys for too long and it's time to ask the checkers to go to the net and get some garbage goals.

This was Montreal teams in the past bread and butter without which the Big lines would have had to carry the teams. The reason or part of the reason the Habs were so successful was that every line was relentless in forechecking and secondary scoring from all players. If the third and fourth line players were scoring 15 goals and 10 respectively the Habs would win the Cup.Look through the history of the Habs and you will find players that would be front line players as checkers for the Habs.

A lot of it really just comes down to ice-time for these grinder/energy players. If we give our players 4-5 minutes of ice-time a game, they're far less likely to put up some points than on nights where they get closer to 10; its much easier to get into a groove and find a rhythm.

I found it quite interesting that Pyatt accepted a considerable pay cut from last year to stick around with the big club.

I think a few of the RFAs received paycuts, didn't they? Mathieu Carle was another one (although he has not made the big club yet). Either way, I guess Tom doesn't mind playing for $500K as long as it's in the NHL! :D

I do think that Pyatt could be a third-liner, penalty killer if Eller or Pacioretty were moved up.

Pyatt could most likely be the 4th line center I would think... Pouliot and/or Kostitsyn would have to faulter big-time for anyone to be given a shot on one of the top two lines. Eller will be the third line center I think, with Lapierre playing right wing... question still remains who of Travis Moen or Dustin Boyd gets the left wing spot.
