fourtrax
#76 PK Subban BioStatsVideoDraft ClassQUOTE LIBRARY"P.K. has shown Montreal that not only can he play at the NHL level, but he can excel. The playoffs are a major stage for teams and individual players to showcase their talent and he did not let anyone down. P.K. really showed that he could play extremely well defensively and he was always a threat offensively. On the power play, he demonstrated that he has the skill and ability to do so many things that guys that have been in the league for 10 years are doing. He took a major step forward in his development." Sharenews.com, June 16 2010“I remember the day that Tiger Woods went back to his coach to work on his swing. Everyone was like ‘Why is he doing that? He already has the best swing.’” recalled Subban. “I said to myself that if Tiger Woods is still working on his swing to get better, I can learn something new every day too no matter how well I’m playing or what I’ve accomplished. That’s the mentality you need to have.” Canadiens.com, July 8 2010 (gooser & detritus)"He came in and showed that he can handle himself right away and contribute to our team," said teammate Michael Cammalleri. "We're happy with his progress for sure and we expect him to be a big part of our team. Forget the future, he's a special player now, he's a charismatic guy and he's got a lot of tools. We'll expect a lot out of him." tsn.ca, August 18, 2010 (ForeverHabs#10)
I1IscottieI1I
You know I kinda would like to see him and markov on the same line I think we could almost guarantee we scored a goal whenever they where out there together.
CanadianMike
He will be (A BIG) part of this team and be invited to the ALL STAR game. Book it! PK-mania...really starts this season!

Yup, and if he continues what he did in Hamilton & playoffs, I think he's got a legitimate shot at the Calder trophy.

leafs_rock_go_mccabe
I suppose that since we haven't gone out and signed some aging verteran d-man this summer (yet, knock on wood) Subban will actually be given an opportunity this coming season instead of being relegated to the AHL for another year. Interesting decision. I hope he makes the most of it.

CanadianMike
No pressure PK..none what so ever. we love ya dude. 2 seasons ago at training camp he was waaaay ahead of all the other youngsters. He proved that he can play already with the big boys when he got called up during last playoffs. This guy has got it all. He will make those rookie mistakes, but will be a joy to watch his develop here!

roy_133
The big question is will JM punish him for those mistakes ala O'Byrne or turn the other cheek ala MAB? Unlike O'Byrne PK brings other things to the table, Subban made a variety of dumb mistakes in the playoffs, especially as they wore on and continued to play significant minutes. I do think PK is overrated around here but he'll be a nice addition.

S-Bah
I think that PK has a shot at the Calder, he will be in tough with Taylor Hall getting huge icetime in Edmonton and Seguin with the cast of players Boston has to play with him.One thing is Subban plays great under pressure as we've all seen in the playoffs. dfrancis
I don't know about the All-Star game. Is Subban really a top 8 D-man in the East? No. I think he'll for sure be invited to the Youngstars game, but the All star game would be a stretch. Unless it's fan voting, there's no way he's in. If there's fan voting, he's got a 99% chance of being in. Markov, Kaberle, Pronger, Timonen, Chara, Green, etc. PK is a good defenseman, but we overrate players here. He's a top 4 D-man, with tons of offensive upside. On the PP, he'll be deadly, and will be competent on the #2 PK. He is by no means not a future all star, but he's not going to be a Drew Doughty. I'm excited to see PK develop. I think what we have here is a solid defensive D-man, and a very gifted offensive D-man. I can't wait for a Markov-Subban PP next year. Going to be amazing. detritus
However, wouldn't it be an idea to spread the offensive blue-line love around by putting PK onto PP2? Potentially. However, Markov tends to play anywhere between 1minute to the full 2 minutes of the PP. By hiding Subban on the second PP, he will see very little ice time. Markov is a minute muncher! The only problem I truly see with a Markov-Subban set-up, is who plays which side. A left handed Left D, passing to a righty, Right D is a liability. We all know from experiments of old, that Markov is better on the left side. So, unless we try flipping our PP (Markov plays left, but remains the passer and not the shooter D), we could run into handedness difficulties. fourtrax
I don't think the handedness is a problem at all if the understanding is that Markov is mostly there to set up the shot, not take it. We had problems with him on the right side in 08-09 because Carbonneau was trying to get him to be the primary shooter. And Markie is not a shooter. Line him up right-side to feed PK pucks for the shot from the left point and I don't think you'll have a problem at all. If anything, having Markov at right point makes Cammalleri even more dangerous from his spot on the right wall.
Johnny_rudeboy
The next saviour on defence. Only one season in the AHL (a strong one at that) and a good playoff run in the NHL.... Not bad but an 82 game NHL season is faster and more physical. Most of the top NHL defencemen prospects have taken a few seasons before they made a significant impact for their respective teams. If P.K. makes the team out of training camp then Martin will most likely work him in slowly; realistically I do not expect it to be any different with him from any other young player Montreal has brought up. Offensive DMen who can skate tend to be able to contribute faster, those skills are easier to transition to the NHL game than say, a physical shut down guy who has a lot to learn. I think Subban will contribute but there's going to be significant growing pains as there is for basically any young Dman. He's not the savior, he has a chance to help with some instant offense, maybe have a Del Zotto like season.
