His parents are Jamaican i beleive.

If the Habs drafted him, an "Afro-Canadian" (for want of a better term) and successfully makes it to the main Hab roster, then maybe, one day, the Habs could draft a Chinese-Canadian, (preferably a Quebecer player due to the Molson Plan) and I expect the NHL of the future to have players from a broader range of ethnical origins.

And a greater variety of offensive D-men playing styles as well.

Unlike O'Byrne PK brings other things to the table, Subban made a variety of dumb mistakes in the playoffs, especially as they wore on and continued to play significant minutes.

I do think PK is overrated around here but he'll be a nice addition.

i didn't have a problem with subban's mistakes atleast not as much as i did with obyrne or with MAB because when i watch subban play i think, he's looking for a play, he's doing something, where as with the other two i find they are not thinking therefor e they're turn overs cause my soul to break.

i also think p.k. suibban will not have to immediate affect everyone is hoping for. but defenseman are strange creatures. very rarely do we find a true complete defenseman in the nhl at 20, more often we find raw defenseman with big upside and pray to the lord that they develop a complete game.

I don't care if the guys from the Virgin Islands if he can play

Appenrantly there's been some questions as to wether or not PK should be at the prospect camp. I think it was a smart move by PG and Subban to include him in the prospect camp. From PG it says I know your good but your still young and nothing is guaranteed. From Subban it says he understands this and is willing to do everything thats asked of him, that shows alot of maturity. I hope he makes the team this year and I imagine he will, can't wait to see what our PP looks like with Markov and Subban in the lineup.

The next saviour on defence.

Only one season in the AHL (a strong one at that) and a good playoff run in the NHL.... Not bad but an 82 game NHL season is faster and more physical. Most of the top NHL defencemen prospects have taken a few seasons before they made a significant impact for their respective teams.

If P.K. makes the team out of training camp then Martin will most likely work him in slowly; realistically I do not expect it to be any different with him from any other young player Montreal has brought up.

Impact significantly he likely WILL IMO. This is not your routine bring-up, the possibilities are wide open for one of the best rookie seasons this league has ever seen in a Dman. He will no doubt inpact scoring. He will no doubt inpact PP PK. AND he will no doubt inpact us, Habs nuts. WELCOME TO THE CANADIENS PK..... Guy Lafluer will always be my hero but You're pushin it!

my two cents..

This guy has the potential to be an absolute gem and I don't think anyone can deny this. What I'm really excited about is his attitude and drive. He bleeds hockey and most importantly the CH. When a guy say's (and I'm paraphrasing) "I'll do anything the coach asks me, play 2 mins/10 mins or fill up the water bottles." That's the kind of player who becomes so much more than just an average player or a guy with talent but no drive.

This guy is special in so many ways and I hate to get ahead of myself but he just has absolutely all the talent in the world and the attitude of a champion to go along with it.

Now go out and get your calder trophy this year PK!

No offense, but that's just talk. All it does is demonstrate that PK is an extrovert, that he's good at handling the media by saying the right things. There are plenty of hard-working players out there who don't say those things to the media but whose play on the ice speaks louder than words.

Agreed, but playing in this market, being good at handling the media can only help. (as long as it doesn't cause him to lose focus).

When he played his first game as a Hab (or perhaps even earlier than that) he told to the media that PK in his name meant "penalty killer" and we all know that we expect Subban to be a good penalty killer. Was he good on the penalty kill when he played during the playoffs?

I admit that he might be better on the PP.

I believe that quote was actually from the day he was drafted. ;) I guess the energy was pumping and he just said the first thing that came to his mind. Did he even kill penalties in Hamilton last year? It was to my understanding that the defensive side of game was the one that required the most work.

You're making it sound like this is a negative thing. Is the fact that he was flying around faster and with more work ethic than anyone else also a negative?

I just don't understand how you possibly can take a comment like that from him as nothing but a positive...

Not at all. It's not a negative. However, you were using his quote as evidence that his work ethic is strong. My point is that anyone can talk a good game. The ability to deliver polished quotes in the press is different from working on the ice.

Foot speed does not equal work ethic. PK's style is an uptempo, flashy style. Unless you can demonstrate to me how the ability to skate faster is evidence of working hard, I don't see anything in what you've said or quoted to indicate that PK works harder than any other player on the team.

Hal Gill is a very slow skater, but did a tremendous job in the playoffs against Ovechkin and Crosby. I guess because he doesn't fly around the ice, he must not be working very hard.
