Lynch_mtl
Yes he can but I'd like to see a race between the Subban thread and the Price thread to see who will have the most pages by the end of the year. I believe if Subban has less than 10 games played in the NHL's regular season he is still eligible. I'm putting my money on the Price thread. How low can you go? Too funny, the guy's clearly a positive to any lockerroom regardless of his performance on the ice.
ColRouleBleu
MCammalleri13 Had fun golfing with P.K. Subban yesterday...he looks good training hard! http://twitter.com/MCammalleri13
amp73
High Hopes that are Realistic: Can Subban compete for the Calder trophy? He can but being a D man he's goign to have to have an absolutley outstanding year to be able to compete with the likes of Taylor Hall and company
dfrancis
Subban (and Eller too) realistically has a chance for the Calder, depending on how Hall and Seguin do. If Hall and Seguin both meet expectations and have 30 goal, 50-60 point seasons, Subban's done. But if Hall goes below expectations like Tavares did, and only scores around 20 goals, Subban has a good shot at it.
amp73
Subban (and Eller too) realistically has a chance for the Calder, Realistically Eller is going to need to put up alot of points to be considered for the Calder and right now he isn't even one of the top six forwards

flamesgal1
Realistically Eller is going to need to put up alot of points to be considered for the Calder and right now he isn't even one of the top six forwards Right now he is not even on the team. There is a reason alot of people in the hockey world feel we got shafted on the Halak deal. Eller scored less point in the first AHL season then Ben Maxwell his first season. Just becuase he is now wearing a habs jersey does not make him a star. I hope he does become a star. But he has not doen anything yet for me to think he will be other then being drafted in the first round and being traded for Halak I doubt very many people even new who he was. Subban, by all means certainly has the ability to be a Calder cup winner, he has been an elite player at every level, he took the juniors by storm, he took the AHL by storm, he took the NHL playoffs by storm and the AHL playoffs by storm, he certainly would likelybe one of the picks for Calder cup i would think. All you have to do is read these forums and other forums not just the Habs to find alot of people who think the Halak trade was bad. Time will tell. I hope Subban has a good rookie season. Do I think he has a chance at the Calder.........maybe, but in the playoffs he did have more than one bad game where he tried to do waaaaay to much. If he plays within himself doesn't try to do everything right away he should have a good season. I think he can be a solid d-man but more of a Campbell type of player than a Lidstrom or Markov or Kieth. I do hope everyone will give him time to grow. But if Hall goes below expectations like Tavares did, and only scores around 20 goals, Subban has a good shot at it. I don't think even the Blue's when they drafted Eller even dreamed he could be as good as Hall or Seguin. So don't count on him to take the Calder. Subban has excelled at each level since being drafted and no one would have expected him to be as good defensively as he has. Defencemen usually take longer to develope, Doughty and Subban are definitely a world apart in their careers so far. To say he has a chance to win the Calder is not that big a leap considering his play and the age is not part of the criteria for picking a winner. If he does win I'm sure there will be people crying foul as usual when the Habs players are involved, jealousy causes all sorts of bad thinking. I for one hope he gives people reason to consider him for the Calder.

The trade was bad because Halak was traded or because of what we got in return? So the "people in the hockey world" that you are speaking about are not experts that wrote articles but a bunch of fans? And I agree with you on PK. But there is a outside chance that he can be a Markov/Keith type (Not Lindstrom!)

But there is a outside chance that he can be a Markov/Keith type (Not Lindstrom!) Halac was gone for 4-5 mill to some other team long term....we got something back instead of nothing ...Eller isn't just a throw-in here he's a top-level prospect that might play with the club this year....it's about cap issues as well...we simply couldn't keep both goalies....Price will come in cheaper and Auld is a decent back-up for peanuts...I personally don't see the "bad" trade here...I think we did better than expected considering the situation....there's no magic crystal ball that says Halac going to have a stellar year either...I wish him the best in St. Louis ...I think it's a win-win for both clubs if Halac continues playing well but thats yet to be determined...not to mention that we also got Shultz who might eventually make the club on toughness alone...I think management did a superlative job on this by jumping in before the Free Agency frenzy and getting a decent player(s) in return...now Carey Price having a good year makes them look like geniuses ...Carey Price having a so-so year

There may prove room in the rafters for Subban if he continues to progress in the NHL as he has everywhere else. He is a special prospect to say the least. Long before the new season starts, he is the talk of the town. It doesn't matter too much to me how his 1st season goes. Win the Calder or need to head back down, IMO he will be a massive player in the future, no doubt. He has already shown he can play in the bigs, and not a push over. Because Markov is here to model for PK, his potential is magnified. I could see Subban as a Premier Defender in the NHL and I can't rule out that it might be right out of the gate.
