Win-the-cup
I wonder when the Molson's will pencil JM as the new GM this year. My guess will be before the March trade deadline.

theRazor67
Very impressed with the way he his leading this team. It's easy to see that his presents makes a big impact here. It's nice to have this great coach at the wheel. He's too strong a personality to be affected by the press or to be intimidated by our winning past. Things are improving. In his first year he managed to gain a berth in the conference finals, a plateau not reached by the Habs since '93, and he did it with less than ideal circumstances. He did it with a depleted roster thanks to injuries to key players. He did it with a team that was not only new to his charge, but new to each other too. He did it when we were down 3-1 in the opening series agaisnt the President's Cup winners, and he did when we were against the Stanley Cup Champs too. With a fistful of great prospects, our highly skilled "smurfs" and (knock on wood) a healthier roster, this team with continue getting stronger through his knowledge and experience. I do not subscribe to the notion that Halak was the formost reason for our run in 2009-10. He was fantastic, at times, magical. But it was the Montreal Canadiens that won together. A tight unit, far from the disfunctional team of just one season eariler. An inspired crew of new faces with championship experience. A team that blocked shots at an unheard of rate. But formost IMO it was a team with great leadership. Halak didn't elevate our PP to the elite level, he didn't score a single goal and he didn't throw any big body checks. No man is an Island in the NHL. How many seasons did Hasek play for the Sabres with no Championship ring? How many cups did the Kings and "The Great One" amass? Teams win play-off series, not players, teams. Teams with great leaders!

Although JM left me scratching my head at times (something I've gotten use to in the last decade), he did a good job when all the chips were against him. In the post season, the Habs finally looked like a team, Halak was exceptional, but so was Cammer, Gio was strong as well, our defense sacrificed their body's to block shots, altogether brought us to the ECF. Many didn't expect this team to even make the playoffs after BG's facelift, just goes to show what can be accomplished when a team comes together... Sure there were the odd floaters, but after a great post season run, I was proud to wear my Habs jersey-even after being eliminated by the *shudder* Flyers. plywood
One thing I definately want to see JM improve on for this upcoming season is how to deal with the young guys. I stongly disagree with how he handled O'byrne this past season. Likewise, I put a portion of the blame on him for the whole SK situation as well, he most definetly could have approached and handled the situation much differently. But that whole issue I believe was a management wide problem, not just with JM. If Jacques pull the same kind of moves with Subban as he did with O'byrne last season, There will be quite a few unhappy campers. If he wants to be strict with his defense and bench players for small mistakes, I can live with that. My issue is he does not do this consistently as he lets other players get away with many many mistakes, and it seems like they get REWARDED with icetime. Me aswell. Although my gut tells me he wont be, as subban is a HUGE fan favorite and if he did that, the media scrutiny he would face would be unreal. Bean-Counting-Hab
I think many of us have a sour memory of how OB was treated because it happened at the end of the regular season and into the playoffs. For most of the regular season though, OB was actually getting decent icetime and good, carefully managed, matchups. I'm hoping JM gets back to using him this way when the season starts. (Unless someone else plays their way into his spot). As for PK, he made rookie mistakes in the playoffs and still got plenty of icetime so I'm hopeful that trend will continue this season. RSD
I'd like for this team not to be outshot 2-1/3-1 this season. It was start to finish last year, we can't have another season of that. Hopefully, JM, you have a plan.
Rondalsf
Maybe he can come up with a way where we actually spend time in the opposing teams end of the rink for more than just a casual shoot-in.

Philadelphia was bigger, stronger on defense than we had offensively, and we got pushed around. Simple as that.
