How Is This Board Busier Than The French Board?

Recommended Posts

I'm really curious. Shouldn't the french board be 4 or 5 times busier? Is there some other french language board where francophone fans hang out? Do Francophone fans not care about boards because the french language radio and TV is of a much higher quality than the English radio and TV?

Maybe there are a lot more English-speaking Habs fans than you think...

I think you hit the nail on the head... While the french side probably consists mainly of Quebecers, the English side has fans as far away as England (real fans, not those who come here once in a while to spam).

I qondered the same thing as well, then started to look at the members on the English side and realized a lot weren't from Montreal or even Quebec.

The people in England are probably from Montreal. I'm posting from Columbus, but I'm from Montreal.

Even if you include all expat Anglo Montrealers (around 400,000 people), the French side should be much busier.

Right now the English board is about 6 or 7 times busier than the french board.

Remember, the CH is the most prestigious NHL team so it just has to have fans from almost every place where one can play hockey, even England.

Not necesarily... We have one member, born and raised in England, who has family out west (Canada). He got into hockey while he was in Canada on vacation, somehow became a Habs fan and has been ever since. He should come back once the season starts.

In fact, there's a huge torrent site based in England that is devoted to the NHL... Obviously, North American's record the games and shows, then post it on the torrent site, where UKer's download and watch the games (at their own convenience).

To stay within the COC, I won't mention the name of the site, but I've used it and I can tell you they have more members than this site. And no, it's not your run of the mill torrent site, it's only for NHL games, NHL related shows and NHL related networks.

This is a place for everyone from outside Quebec to get our daily dose of the Habs. We don't get anywhere near the news coverage the people of Quebec do so we look to this forum to keep informed.

I've been on Habs boards with people from the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Japan, United Arab Emirates - all using English to one degree or another. Also remember than many Habs fans in Quebec are bilingual.

Do you live in Columbus too?

At the amount of media coverage the Habs get in Montreal, both in English and in French, even the homeless somehow get a Habs dose or two on an irregular basis. Hence Hal Gill saying, "If a homeless guy knows his hockey, you know you're in Montreal"

And... how many of fans on the boards outside Quebec live in "hockey-forsaken" places (i.e. places where hockey coverage is minimal, if any)?

Yes so true & it is also a great place to come & talk about our beloved Habs. Share some laughs, argue a bit, trade some barbs but mostly discuss everything & anything about the Habs. Even if Habs1952 comes on here....

I'll apologize now. :P

Slightly weird although the Habs have a very large fan base all over and when I look at locations I think I notice close to as many people outside of Quebec as in. Another note is there are several very busy English Habs forums, HFboards has a ton of Habs fans as an example.

I'm just glad there are Habs fans from all over, no matter what language they speak. We all love and understand the universal language of Montreal Canadiens hockey, and to me, that's all that should matter.

i agree 100%, we are the best fans in the world, and the best franchise ever.

You mean the best fans and best franchise in the HOCKEY world. There are great teams and great fans in other sports too. That I cannot, unfortunately, compare to the Habs because they are, well, playing other sports.
