Will Hartford Get Noticed???

Recommended Posts

As I have posted before , Howard Baldwin is back in Hartford and is not stopping at trying to get Hartford back on the NHL radar. He has organized a Hartford Whalers reunion charity dinner and a fan festival with many players returning to Hartford this August.....Including Ronnie Francis, Kevin Dineen, Joel Quenneville, Mike Liut just to name a few......and Gordie Howe will also be there.

In February of 2011 , with the NHL's approval he has organized a 10 day outdoor hockey festival at our 40,000 seat arena. To commerate the 25th anniversary of when Hartford hosted the all star game. He has invited many greats from that game ( Messier, Gretzky, etc) to take on a hollywood celebrity team, along with many high level high school and college games and the Whalers alumni vs the Bruins alumni.

He has also taken control on the AHL team " Hartford Wolfpack".....they will from now on , starting this season be re-named the Connecticut Whalers and will wear the Green and blue colors of whalers old. They will still affiliated with the NY rangers. He is hoping for an average of 8,000- 9,000 per game for the AHL. They will also most likely be playing in the outdoor festival.

Next on order will be to determine if the existing XL Center can be retrofitted to please NHL standards or if a new arena is needed....

I'd like to see another team in Hartford... I grew up with the adams division. I miss the old Hartford/Montreal rivalry... Man, that was some tough hockey back then. At times, only a handful of point separated 1st and 5th place, was one of the toughest divisions in the wales conference.

Would that do if the Islanders were relocated in Hartford? I mean, New York is saturated as far as hockey go and Hartford would be an improvement since some fans were willing to drive all the way from Boston or New York to see their teams play the Whalers, back in the day. Plus this place is into hockey as much as it is possible to be in it.

As much as I would hate to see the Islanders leave with all their history and again I would much rather see them stay... but if they needed a home ....Hartford would be a great one....but give me a southern mistake team instead ( Atlanta, Nashville)

I will post some pics and updates from the fan fest this weekend !!!!!

Why would Hal Gill say, "If a homeless guy knows his hockey, you know you're in Montreal" otherwise? He once was both a Laff and a Bruin; if Toronto homeless actually knew hockey as much as these homeless Habs fans maybe he would have said "If a homeless guy knows his hockey, you know you're in Toronto" when he was a Leafs player.

But still, the day where Hartford will get its team back, the Leafs will no longer be in the Northeast Division.

Close to 3,000 show up for a Hartford Whalers fan fest at Rentschler Stadium. All to see past whaler players and get atuographs. There were vendors there selling whaler merchandise ( which is now in the top 5 best selling merchandise - nationwide)

The had an awesome logo... The "W" with the wale tail was so cool, plus if you look carefully, you can see an "H" in negative space.

It was a cool logo.

i know! i give a tip o my hat to who ever designed that. also i'd say move atlanta there. keep the panthers down here so i can afford to go to games :P

Designed by Peter Good (of cummings & good) back in the day. Its a fairly major firm & Good is a fairly well-known designer (also designed the University of Connecticut logo, Arches paper logos and several other fairly major companies' identities and branding) but the whale logo is still their/his most recognizable, IMHO.

Sorry, couldnt resist a little history as its a fellow graphic designer.

Don't apologize, it's interesting.

I think the Whaler's logo, along with the red wings logo are 2 of the most interesting. The wing with the spoke wheel is awesome.
