Will Hartford Get Noticed???

Less Sun Belt, more Snow Belt.

Québec, Hartford, Winnipeg, Seattle... are the places to play ice hockey.

Anyway, I'm not only thinking that there are too many southern teams in the NHL, there aren't also not enough Canadian teams!

Hey, out of 30 teams, there are only 6 out of Canada!!! There should be at least 10 Canadian teams in the NHL, with at least 3 teams from the "Belle Province"!

OK, Hartford isn't in Canada, but anyway, thumbs up for Hartford!

I don't mind seeing teams relocated back up North, where fans will be more into games. Quebec City, Winnipeg, and Hartford could all be potential sites, although if we're talking about Canada and fans, I could see there being fans in places like Saskatoon and Halifax too, I just don't know if there's as big a local fan base and as much corporate support as would be needed.

What I don't want to see is there being more cases of multiple teams in one city (i.e no second Toronto team). Part of cheering for or against a team is identifying that team with a city and its people/fans.

I think the NHL needs to take a serious look at getting teams out of Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Florida, Nashville, Carolina, and Atlanta and maybe moving two or three of them back up North. If the others are not viable, why not consider contraction. The league won't, because it's all about the money, but it would certainly help to get rid of some of the watered-down effect on the NHL talent pool.

Saskatoon and Halifax are AHL/KHL-viable. NHL-viable? I don't know.

Florida can support one team, Tampa. Miami should move. Atlanta or NY Islanders? Tough to decide.

List of possible places where to move a NHL team:

Winnipeg

Quebec City

Hamilton

Milwaukee

Hartford

Portland

Salt Lake City?

Cleveland?
