If there's still an NHL team in Phoenix next season, I will eat my toque.

Atlanta's next. Give it a few seasons. Miami too, maybe.

well yah.. i'd give florida a lil more time. with the right coach i think they can make the play offs and people might show up but im ok with moving them

35,000 fans showed up to the Save the Jets rally that was held.

When Phoenix held a similar Save the Coyotes rally, only 200 people showed up.

Thats 5% of winnipeg, and 0.1% of phoenix, or 0.88% of glendale

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/674170-phoenix-coyotes-should-the-coyotes-move-back-to-winnipeg

strangely, I feel this team might stay in Phoenix because 200 fans want a team, better than 35000 right?

This probably wont be a popular opinion but I would do whatever I could to leave the franchises where they are. These things can take a generation to take hold in certain communities, looking at LA as an example. There's tons of California kids playing hockey now and we're starting to see them show up in the NHL. That's good for the game. Having said that, Winnipeg and Quebec should still have franchises.

Expansion means expansion drafts. Redistribution drafts are a disgrace. Moving existing teams to places where people would care about them and notice they exist solves problems without creating new ones.

I guess that Coyote isn't Ilya Bryzgalov...

If the league had let jim balsille buy thePhoenix coyotes and run the team there for a couple of years they wouldn't have been in this mess.If they are going to relocate teams now Florida or Atlanta to either Hamilton or Quebec City and phoenix to winnipeg. There are enough fans in S.ontario to support at least another team possibly 2.now buffalo has a stable owner and are doing well they don't need to worry about losing fans from the Niagara refionFlorida and atlanta are playing to virtually empty arenas and losing a ton of money.Florida could be moved to Quebec city and play at the colliseum until there new arena is built. As for Atlanta you could always put them in kansas city or maybe Oklahoma or Seattle or why not put a team back in Hartford.

I would like to see the NHL really work to grow the game, not such have Gary Bettman surround himself with allies with rich pockets, and poor markets.

This is my 3 year plan:

1. Coyotes don't want to move to Winnipeg, and Gary Bettman doesn't want to admit he made a mistake, because his image/vison would be tarnished. Thus I say the heck with the Coyotes and Shaine Doan, move the Thrashers to Winnipeg, keep the name the Manitoba Moose because it will be with the support of an entire province that the team succeeds, and you could expect a rivalry between the Moose and the Wild to be intense! And all the people who own repossessed houses in Phoenix can still go down to watch their team beat the Coyotes.

2. As Gary Bettman allows for a slow death in Phoenix, he should really do something positive for the game of hockey, and put a team in the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle Thunderbirds would be a great rival for the Canucks, there is quite a bit of hockey interest in Washington, and putting a team there could only help to grow the game in the region (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) in a way that the California teams are starting to contribute to California hockey.

3. Quebec would love a team, it has the passion for the game and an owner that will add additional television broadcasting rights to the NHL, hence more money. Problem is they don't have an arena yet, and the Colisée is really in the middle of nowhere, it doesn't have the revenue potential that other arena districts can generate out of hockey, so they will probably have to wait until Regis Lebaume completes their dream. In the meantime, if the Nordiques Nation is going to keep travelling to New York to make themselves heard, perhaps PK Pelardeau should equip the 2 000 fans, with a few prominent politicians, and briefcases to make Charles Wang an offer he can't refuse. I think with all the trouble he is having finding an arena, he may be ready to make a deal.

I would then realign the divisions

WEST

Northwest

Vancouver

Calgary

Edmonton

Winnipeg

Minnesota

Pacific

Colorado (they have good college hockey interest, I think an American divison would help)

San Jose

L.A

Anaheim

Phoenix/Seattle

Midwest

Detroit

Chicago

St. Louis

Nashville

Dallas

EAST

Central

Toronto

Ottawa

Buffalo

Pittsburgh

Columbus (Columbus has to be losing money, Buffalo and Pittsburgh would be a good rivalry, having a few Canadian fans come to their games too couldn't hurt)

Northeast

Québec

Montreal

Boston

NY Rangers

New Jersey

Atlantic

Philly

Washington

Carolina

Tampa

Florida

The changes in the East are much more noticeable, Montreal's biggest rival would be Quebec, followed by Boston, than New York, I personally find Montreal-New York games more exciting than Montreal-Toronto. Toronto suddenly becomes a powerhouse in their division.

I am tired of seeing Washington win their division by default, Philly would give them a run for their money, Carolina-Philly would be a decent rivalry, and as long as Florida exists as a hot spot for tourists, and somebody wants to operate a team there, I have no problem with keeeping their teams in the league, it puts the vacation aspect of hockey into play.

The big change I would like to see as well is a restructuring of the minor leagues. AHL attendance is ridiculous, and the product is pretty boring. The NHL should follow MLB and introducue a West Coast Hockey League, with teams in Anchoradge, Victoria, Boise, Utah, and California to grow the game out West and so that West coast teams could keep their players playing near them (reduced operating costs).

The AHL should be reformatted, its best attendances are coming out of Texas, adding teams to markets like Birmingham, Shreveport, Charleston, SC could only help to increase exposure to the NHL product and increase its fan base (revenue). An independent Chicago team again would be cool, a team in college hockey mad North Dakota couldn't hurt, could it? A 20 something team league with a few less in New England, and a few more in bigger markets might give the AHL a more respectable image.

That's my thoughts, Happy Easter.

I like most of it. But switch detroit and columbus around. :) also, some restructuring like phili and pits idk its drastic. but could work

I agree. I think it's alright. Buuuuut...

If I was given full reign to do whatever I wanted, American TV broadcasters would probably hate me. I'd move Atlanta to Québec and Phoenix to Winnipeg, and I would go back to calling the conferences Campbell/Wales and the divisions Adams/Patrick/Smythe/Norris, as well as adding two new ones. Name one of them after Pat Burns. :) They would have absolutely no bearing to geographic area, and with teams that are now for the most part divisional rivals being conference rivals. The Ability to have a Subway Series in MLB, due to the nature of the AL and NL, is great. And I think it'd benefit hockey to have something similar in the Stanley Cup Final.

So, here's my ridiculous idea.

Wales

Adams

Canadiens

Flyers

Senators

Capitals

Rangers

Patrick

Avalanche

Canucks

Oilers

Kings

Red Wings

Burns

Lightning

Sharks

Blues

Blue Jackets

Panthers

Campbell

Norris

Maple Leafs

Nordiques

Penguins

Bruins

Devils

Smythe

Ducks

Stars

Flames

Jets

Blackhawks

Unnamed

Hurricanes

Wild

Sabres

Islanders

Predators

It's obviously never going to happen, but I can dream. :)

If Winnipeg gets a team, I really hope it will be the Coyotes. Not for the poetic justice, but more for placement. The way I see it, if the Coyotes come here, it makes most geographical sense to shift the Avalanche to the Central division and Winnipeg to the Northwest. Moving the Avalanche could allow for a reignition of the Avs-Wings rivalry, and putting Winnipeg in the same division as Edmonton, Vancouver, and Calgary would give it instant leverage in ticket sales with 1/4 of the season thus being played against Canadian teams.

But, I suppose the poetic justice would be sweet too. I don't ever think we'll see the team named the Jets. I think Chipman/Thompson would want a fresh start, and I also believe they will likely name the team the "Manitoba _____" if we get one back, for marketing purposes. I don't think they'll keep the name as the Moose either. The problem with sticking with the Jets/Moose names is that you instantly lose a giant chunk of potential merchandise sales. Some argue that both would be successful as they have brands entrenched in the community, but Chipman is no slouch when it comes to building a brand and I don't think he'd have a problem marketing the team as something new.

What would totally be the icing on the cake is IF Winnipeg has a team next year, Teemu comes back to play where the 'new boss' started it all back in the day. I've heard whispers that Doan would be hesitant to return and one broadcaster already mentioned that teams in California have already slipped word to him that if he doesn't want to relocate he'll have a home with them. Would be cool to see him back too, but Teemu would be so much sweeter. :P
