Kubby31
Actually, one turned out to be too many. True Why can't the outdoor game for 2012 be an outdoor game with one Canadian team (preferrably an Original Six team) playing an American team? That way both sides of the hockey world will be happy. Habs VS Hawks......I like it.
Icroyhable
CBC & RDS will for sure. Not so sure about NBC since it's two Canadian teams. Sweet i can watch it cause its on CBC, great, thanks man.
Mathradio
Habs vs. Bruins could also be a good thing except maybe the crowd control bill if made in the Olympic Stadium. Or Habs vs. Rangers in the Yankee Stadium. However, Habs vs. Hawks could use the Soldier Field if Chicago is cold enough the week after Super Bowl week to actually have ice on it. Habs-101
How cool would it be to have three outdoor games on new years day 2012, MTL vs DET TOR vs NYR CHI vs BOS All original six teams in original six match ups get a few alumni from each team for a game New Years Eve day to raise money for charities... just expanding on the idea several posts up... but I think it would be really cool do this with original six teams rather than just the teams that have the superstars every year. BOS VS NYR. CHI VS DET.
Mathradio
I'd rather have it: Habs vs. Bruins Leafs vs. Rangers Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Three of the most virulent rivalries in hockey.

I know it would probably be most logical to do it that way, but the wings already played the hawks in an outdoor game, and you hardly get to see east play west anymore that why i had the match ups the way i had suggested!! plus the US cities have bigger venues to hold the games at, and any of those cities will still sell out the crowds. franck5890
I strongly disagree... They're not starting at 10am and finishing around noon, this is the winter where the the sun set at around 5pm. And wind, ok, might not affect the puck much, but have you ever tried to bike into the wind? You pedal and pedal but get nowhere... The wind, special winter winds are a killer, specially on the prairies. You have a forward with the wind at his back propelling him and you're skating backwards trying to keep up with him. Then if you're a goalie with the wind in your face, your eye's are constantly tearing. I can't see how you can say that playing outdoors with all the elements doesn't have an effect. And even though they play 30 minutes on each side, doesn't mean that the wind won't change or that the elements stay exactly the same. Just listen to the players (like sid) talk after the games... They all mention how different it is, having to deal with wind, natural light, shadows, un-even ice surface, etc... Yup, as well McMahon stadium isn't a fully enclosed stadium either, there is one completely open end zone.

Yeah, the leafs habs rivalry isn't what it used to be. Well not in the GTA anyway. But thats probably because they are never competitive with us . Boston on the other hand usually has a pretty good record, and it makes for entertaining games. But i still love to watch the habs own up the leafs. Guest Carey_Price
Honestly i'd rather see a Habs vs Leafs or Bruins matchup too, we have more history with those two teams, it would draw more crowd too, and most of all we have a bigger rivalry with those two teams than Calgary. That would make the game much more intense and entertaining to the hockey world.
354846_1475251266
Will we ever get the Winter Classic? 3 possible places and reasons why they wont do it here. 1 Big O, Would be best choice ample seating but they wont remove the roof. 2 Percival Molson Stadium, Nice place not enough seats. 3 Sapputo Stadium, Same reason as above. Mathradio
The day where Boston will get that damned game they will play the Habs in the Gillette Stadium. And, if the Big O was not suitable for an outdoor game, maybe it could be good for an All-Star Game.

Technically to be fair our next all star game would be in 29 years I hope the big O wont be there then lol

Mathradio
But really, these games can't be hosted by any team. If you say Boston you're looking into at least five more years down the road.
Icroyhable
Or perhaps playoff games instead... Can you imagine a playoff game outdoors? Goodness that would be awful. I think the All-Star game outdoors is a great idea. Because i really don't like how the winter classic actually counts as a game i think thats a not a good idea set out by the league, but an all-star game outdoors? It would be a great idea and something that i think would make the all star game a lot cooler. Honestly i'd rather see a Habs vs Leafs or Bruins matchup too, we have more history with those two teams, it would draw more crowd too, and most of all we have a bigger rivalry with those two teams than Calgary. That would make the game much more intense and entertaining to the hockey world. Yeah i don't get that either, why are we playing Calgary anyway? And why arn't they playing edmonton. I'm sure the league has some reason for marketing or otherwise. Or maybe the habs and leafs just don't play during the cold months but if the league is going to have some sort of heritage classic, at least get the teams right. But Sapputo is getting renovations for when the Impact (or whatever they call the team) gets into MLS i think around 20,000 seats. So it could yet be a good venue for a outdoor game. Nine1One
They gonna sell the classic jersey's on their online store? thinking about getting either a home cammy jersey or a classic one with him cause you cant go those all the time haha

FirstStar
Although I like the outdoor games, I find the novelty is wearing thin. The all-star game sounds good or sometime during all-star weekend, like maybe when they play the 3 on 3 they could do it outdoors. It'll be more like an outdoor shinny game. I know many have disagreed with me, but I still feel that an outdoor has too many variables that could affect the outcome of the game. Which is why they play hockey inside and not outside on a pond. Playing in an arena levels the playing field. There's no wind, the lighting is (or it should be) equal on every part of the ice and the ice quality should be even as well. Not 100% sold on the fact that it counts towards the regular season.
Mathradio
Only a handful of teams could host All-Star Games outdoors, though. Habs, Leafs, Bruins, to name a few of those who can.
Guest Carey_Price
I think too many games are being played outdoors...and I know it's a new thing, but it just seems like it's not that new anymore. The original one in 2003-2004 with the habs playing the oilers was great. They should have waited 5 more years to do another winter classic, then keep doing one every 5 years. But instead we've been having one every year (two this year) since 2006 or or something. Just doesn't seem that special to me anymore now lol but that's just me speaking. Now when i hear winter classic i'm just like meh, if i miss this one i'll just watch the next one in a year...or in this years case if i miss the first one i can just watch the 2nd one a month later, with two better teams playing (go habs go ). I know it's a 'heritage classic' and not a winter one...but hey it's still outdoors! Or perhaps playoff games instead... I don't think any teams would want to play outside and risk losing a payoff game cause of random breezes and other weather changes, would be quite a show though but don't ever see it happening.
