S-Bah
I would love to see Boston play Montreal in the O or anywhere in Montreal. I'd come for that outdoor game at least there won't be any chance of a chinook blowing in and melting the ice like there would be in Calgary in February. Mathradio
Who knows... if Bettman was thrown out of office, the next commissionner could have the All-Star Game held outdoors when the team can do it rather than select regular-season games. Icroyhable
Only a handful of teams could host All-Star Games outdoors, though. Habs, Leafs, Bruins, to name a few of those who can. Its a very valid point. I don't know how they would work that out. Maybe they could have a Winter Classic as sort of something like an all-star game hosted in a northern city each year. Or they could just have like a Florida Panther and LA Kings game in Montreal or something to spread the winter classic out to a different group of teams, the Panthers and Kings would make more money that way anyway. But probably in the future some company is going to create some sort of "Fake Ice" and then a lot more games can be played outdoors.

I don't think the two teams, players nor their fans would like the fact that their teams are playing in another hockey teams city. And if teams like Florida and LA came to play in montreal how many people would go watch it? I know you just used those 2 teams as an example but i'm sure i can say the same about many teams. HabsRuleForever
Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri and defenceman James Wisniewski will be on an NHL media conference call at 1 pm today to talk up Sunday's Heritage Classic in Calgary vs. the Flames. We'll post full audio of the call here. From the NHL release, which seems certain that Cammalleri will be in uniform for the Habs: Cammalleri will be participating in his second major outdoor game, having skated for the University of Michigan when they met Michigan State in the ‘Cold War’ at Spartan Stadium in front of 74,000 fans on Oct. 6, 2001. The Canadiens' leading goal-scorer during their run to the Eastern Conference Final last season with a league-high 13 tallies in 19 games, Cammalleri was a member of the Flames when he posted regular-season highs in goals (39) and points (82) in 2008-09. ColRouleBleu
This thread can stay open for now as this game is a special event but it's also a regular season game so as soon as the GDT is open, this one will be closed to avoid splitting/duplicating discussions. The Flames are really hot right now it's to bad they didn't play New Years Eve when Calgary was losing.Looking forward to the game regardless and hope that Cammalleri is back and healthy. DirtyDeeds
For those of you who might still be wondering the Sun should not be a big factor. The ice is North - South facing so the sun will be coming more from the side and a bit south. The Winter Classic is the US Networks version for that market. The Heritage Classic is the Canadian version, of which there has only been the one in Edmonton so far. History The Winter Classic as a television event was the brainchild of NBC Sports Executive VP Jon Miller. He pitched the idea to the NHL in 2004 "but they didn't find the concept workable". In December 2006, Miller found an ally in then Executive VP/Business & Media John Collins who embraced the idea. The first Winter Classic was held January 1, 2008, from wiki Hope that clarifies. I'm hoping for a barn burner on Sunday. ------------------------------------ "It's a great day for hockey!" - Robert Norman "Badger Bob" Johnson -
