If price can have AT LEAST a decent season, and the Canadiens have a much better year in terms of injuries, look for the habs to have an outstanding season and challenge Boston for the division.

Vancouver as number 1 in the West actually makes a lot more sense when you think about it, they will own their divisional games, whereas Detroit/Chicago will have harder games. The Pacific also might be a bad division this year, Anaheim and Dallas are rebuilding it seems, Phoenix lost a lot of centers, Los Angeles is basically the same and are not really a force yet and San Jose lost their goalie and captain and some of their good 3rd/4th liners.

Ahead of the Penguins, even when the Penguins let go of Gonchar and signed both Martin and Michalek in their stead? The Penguins have improved their D some. Unless, somehow, many opponents would gang up on Crosby and Malkin, shutting them down...

I guess they did improve their D but I don't think Martin or Michalek is as much as a threat out there as Gonchar would be. Personally I don't think their offense is anything special. If you shut down Crosby and Malkin the Penguins aren't even a top team in the conference. Obviously thats easier said then done but it can be done, as we saw in the playoffs ;).

But the CH would still attempt to shut down their top 2 centers. And Michalek is a decent shutdown D-man (I remember someone comparing Michalek to Langway) so it won't be all that easy for us to shut down their top 2 centers. Crosby and Malkin can feed pucks to wingers that are not as good as Cammalleri or Gionta, but even Kunitz is not that great.

Northeast is a 3-way race between Boston, Buffalo and us. You could expect us to be on the top of the division only to see us be 3rd in Northeast another week.

Unlike baseball and basketball, hockey is supposed to be interesting all season long, for the very reason that makes the Stanley Cup the hardest championship to win in professional sports (from a player's viewpoint!)

If these finishes were so easy to proclaim then these columns would be nonsensical. As far as proper finishes the Eastern should be the hardest. Pittsburgh should be at the top.Washington close.Montreal, Philly, and NewJersey next Ottawa,Buffalo and either Tampa Bay or Boston after.

Really, I see it as us and Ottawa

EDIT: I have Ottawa winning the conference, how much of a genius will I look if they come 1st, Carolina come 3rd, and Toronto come 8th, however, what an idiot I will be if non of these teams make the playoffs

Heres what I would say for now.

East

9. Montreal Canadiens (Basically the same team that made the playoffs by 1 point without Halak)

As you said, same basic lineup as last year

The replacements players are question marks so I figure this team fights for the last playoff spot , like they have the last bunch of years

If they play like they did last year and don't get the goaltending they could be out of it early

If they get career years out of some players and stay injury free it will be a dog fight

Its a very good thing that we have the same basic lineup as last year. This a brand new team that needed time to gel, and when playoff time came, you could see that was happening very well. I don't see how how they played bad last year. How can you expect a team to have a great season when their constantly dealing with big injuries through out the entire season. That had everything to do with the team taking a while to gel. if they career years out of players, stay injury free, and get at least decent goaltending out of Price, it wont be any fight for 8th place.

Their goaltending is still an issue... JS is on the wrong side of 30 and has to deal with the new pad rule, while Gus is still a few years away.

I'm not too worried, they've improved, but not in leaps and bounds. They may find themselves around 10-12th in the east. Still not much of a threat.

What a team means on Paper is different then how they will play as a team. Toronto will be not make the play-offs.

Come PO time they relied on Halak ....for the mosty part .

They got outshot badly ..........alot

The blocked alot of shots

They can't play like that for 82 regular season games ..........

Wow, most people have Carolina not making the playoffs, I have them as divisional winners o.o

Luckily for you nobody will remember this post by the end of the year if you're wrong, but you can come back and quote it for bragging rights if you're correct. ;)

Just call it the ol' Don Cherry spam-and-brag!
