The Kaberle Saga.

Recommended Posts

FROM TSN.

Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle would welcome a trade and reportedly won't return to Toronto when his contract ends next season as long as Ron Wilson is the coach, according to Kaberle's own father.

According to the Toronto Sun, Frantisek Kaberle Sr., Tomas' father, told Czech hockey magazine Hokej this week that despite the fact that his son has a no-trade clause that kicked in earlier in the week, he doesn't see his son playing for the Leafs for the entire season.

"I think that during the course of the year he will be traded to another club," Karberle said. "There is only one chance for Toronto to get something back in return for Tomas now. In my opinion, I can't see Tomas entering a new contract with Toronto. Not if Ron Wilson continues to be employed there."

For a deal to happen, the defenceman would have to tell the team which clubs he would allow a trade to. In the meantime, Kaberle's father expects his son to remain quiet on all the potential trade talk.

"I think that Tomas won't even comment on (trade possibilities) anymore.", the elder Kaberle said. "He is content in Toronto with both the club and the city.

"I still think though that some change would be welcomed."

Kaberle Sr., also weighed in on how the Maple Leafs rebuilding efforts might be hampered by the passion and expectations of 'Leafs Nation'.

"I have been following Toronto for a long time," he said. “I didn't believe it much in the beginning, but it seems that the best players don't want to go to this club.

"The reason is because of the huge pressure from the fans, and especially the media. Not every hockey player is able to deal with it."

I hate the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I like Tomas Kaberle.

Probably because they've hounded him so much about getting traded I just have to take his side. If he pulled a Dany Heatley and demanded a trade I wouldn't blink an eye. He SHOULD demand a trade. For everytime that Brian Burke (or someone else) has gone on in the media about trading him he has every right to be annoyed. Jeez, he's your best player since Sundin left. Trade him or keep him! Make up your mind and get it done instead of continuously revisiting the idea and making it public every 3 months. <_<

Ouch. When your best player doesnt want to play for your coach, you've got problems. :P

Even then, the Leafs are toying with the option to switch Kabs from D-man to forward as we did with MAB back in the day.

I seriously doubt anyone within the organization is actually considering converting their best defenseman to a forward. Where did you get this from?

Darn it! Why do I always have to fish for things like these on the Leafs boards? The most ridiculous thing I heard about that was to replace Versteeg on their top line by Kaberle!

You're clearly surrounding yourself with the wrong kind of people. Nothing good comes from a Leafs forum ;)

My grand-aunt in Toronto made me do it! She told me, if you really respect the Leafs, even if only for one season, then at least try to pretend you're a Leafs fan as long as you respect that team. These Leafs fans even wanted to compare the ACC to the Bell once. I told them that only a concerted effort from Leafs fans would make it clear to MLSE's eyes that what they call Leafs Nation is getting restless.

 except a lot of talk about golfing in the spring

Before August 15th, they literally went nuts about the whole Kaberle saga, tearing their fanbase apart, with the odd end-of-season predictions, almost all of which made the Leafs go to the playoffs and they even dared say that we were the ones knocked off from the playoffs at the very end.

They don't seem to talk about golfing all that much either.

Back to Kaberle. There has to be something that keeps him in Toronto (or the East if Toronto didn't want him back after this season)...
