Mathradio
There's a lot of prospects knocking at the Habs' door and each prospect that makes the team can cause a surprise or two.
amp73
PK Eller Price PK and Eller - 1st year in the NHL, provided they make it, which they should. It will be interesting to see how they do . Price - 'cause now he's the man . Everyone else has, for the most part, been in the NHL for sometime now so I'm not expecting anything different than what we've seen from them in prior years I don't expect anyone or two players to have 80 + point season let alone a 70 + pt season

S-Bah
Yes, some funny business I'll try my damnest best to bring Lapierre into , it would be the icing on the cake, or the catsup on the jersey, whatever I am quite surprised that the penalty for failure should involve eating one of the fabled Toronto Maple Leaf Jersey jersey's My preference would be Dave Keon's # 14. S-Bah
The one player who has had a chance to ply his trade and could make a big difference is the much maligned Max Pacioretty look for hin to rest his case.
amp73
A jersey that has never been retired, despite Keon's wishes. Leafs do not retire jerseys........apparently Wait, so since his NHL debut he hasn't been the man? Well he has but if he failed there was always someone in the back waiting I don't think Auld is a guy we should be resting our hopes on if Price faulters
roy_133
Hard to say, generally every season a handful of players have outlier seasons, both good and bad. Last year Gionta scored at a pace I didn't imagine he could anymore so while it's likely he regresses, at least in terms of per game numbers, it's possible we see a guy like Kostitsyn or Gomez have a year where they out perform reasonable expectations. As for Carey, nothing he can do will surprise me. Banking on goalies for anything resembling a consistent year to year performance is suicide. deadchip
I think that Eller may surprise us and I think Ryan O'Byrne will emerge as a very consistent D-man. Ryan will likely come out like gangbusters again this year, felt so bad for him geting hurt so early after coming into the season with such gusto and confidence. Spacek may well play on his natural side this year and could see a lot of improvement over last year.

I like O'byrn very much i think he is learning and getting much more talent with each season and soon i think under the right people he will shine and turn into a solid 2nd line defensman. I think he is already a good 3rd line defensman but i would like to see him take that extra step. And with Markovs injury he has a shot at really proving himself on the defensive unit. I am very confident that he will have a good season this year and prove all his doubters wrong. He needs consistency and confidence, but i think Martin has done a great job in giving him equal dosses of both.
swimmerpuck
For me it would be Markov playing most of the season and performing up to his ability in the playoffs as well. Beyond him I'm hoping Pacioretty can make a splash and come much closer to fulfilling his potential.

ChiLla
Probably more wishful thinking than anything else but I believe we'll see A.Kostitsyn bounce back this year and yes, he'll surprise a few people doing so.
gracie12
I have 3 choices for players who might surprise. 1) Scott Gomez: I think a lot of people expect Cammalleri, Gionta, and Plekanec to lead the attack, but don't count out Scott Gomez. he's my pre-season pick to finish first in team scoring. A lot of variables are at play obviously, but the guy has definite chemistry with Gionta and if the two of them can stay relatively healthy and find a winger who can do more than last year's Benny, they'll have good success. Gomez is the Habs' best forward in the neutral zone and while I don't expect him to score, I think we'll see him have more success in the offensive zone this year. I think he'll surprise in that a lot of people have picked on him for his contract and as I said, because his play seems to be somewhat over-shadowed by the three players I mentioned. 2) Ryan White: this is my sleeper pick to make the team out of camp, or if not to play his way onto the team the way Tom Pyatt did last year. the guy plays with heart and he uses his size better than a lot of our other players. If he continues to do that, I think he adds a lot of versatility and I think he can do the job guys like Latendresse and Moen have failed to do. 3) Jaro Spacek: admittedly, my evaluation of Spacek last year was that he under-performed although I know a lot of others were happy with his play. With Markov out, I wonder if he will finally get a chance to play on the left side and I think this will lead him to play better. I think he'll also possibly get first-line PP minutes with Subban until Markov is back, so again, this might help his offensive production. The other factor that helps Spacek this year is the improved depth we have on D and the fact that the schedule is not compressed by the Olympics, which I think will spare him some energy later on in the year. So for me, I think Spacek has the chance to improve on the performance he gave last year. In response to some other posters, I would be surprised if Lapierre put up 20 goals and I would be equally surprised to see AK46 have a career year. Yes, AK46 is in a contract year, but I get the feeling he isn't motivated by all that much. I think he'll have good games and bad games, but this far along in his career I don't suddenly expect his performance to change by a drastic amount. Great post! Ive said for a while now that i believe that Gomez will have at least 1 PPG season during his current contract - why not this year?

Icroyhable
In terms of surprises I'd like to see, I really hope Scotty has a big year I think he will, him and Gio are really starting to develop some chemistry, and during the playoffs he had some solid numbers. We need more goals out of him, but i think that will come as he settles into Montreal more and more. But i think pretty much anything he does this year is closly tied to the play of Beniot Puliot. If Puliot has a solid season, you can count on Gomez to have a good season.

catt-_mtlc
After seeing him play tonight Palushaj might be a call up this season. If so he could definitely be a surprise this year. If not let's hope Price is a pleasant surprise.
