My Result From Crim 8k Walk

Recommended Posts

Official resut for me from the Crim 8k Walk - 4th place in the age 45-49 Men's age group - 65th overall. Still not bad for my first time in that race. Actually did quite welll on the Bradley Hills, pasing by several folks going up the hills as well as down.

How on earth do you "race" a walk? Does someone stand beside you to make sure one foot is on the ground at all the times or something?

Good job anyways.

Nobody stands beside us at all times. There are so many people entered that it's impossible to see. It's hard enough to see who's running as opposed to walking. And oftentimes, those who fall way behind in the run will get mixed in with the walkers. You can tell them apart because they wear a different color of bib.

It is more like powerwalking, where you walk like you normally would do, except you are going faster, and your arms are pumping to help you along.

What you are referring to is the Olympic rules and those set forth by the US Track and Field Federation. The 10-mile men's run was the official national championship this year, as last year's 10-mile run was for the women. However, that was for those entered in the USATF and the world competition. Not everyone who competes in these things are doing it under those rules.
