I think this kid is the most under rated prospect in the system at the moment, this won't last long mark my words, he may be our best RW in decades.

Time will tell. We will see him in Hamilton soon enough. People are expecting him to be a top-6 forward for them right out of the gate, I think. Hopefully he is and there's no sense of regression or disappointment.

The kid hasn't palyed a game in NA yet and we're already annointing him

OK...........let's hang his jersey from the rafters now

People are excited, that's for sure. I'm curious myself as to if he can even get top-six minutes in Hamilton. I hope he does. I really do, but there's no guarantee that he will even perform well enough for that. My worst fear is that he struggles and goes back to Russia. I really hope he succeeds, though.

People get excited over every player the Habs sign

I could name 5 + guys that people thought were top six and aren't even playinmg with the Habs now

It's Fine to be excited but to start predicting him as a top six forward this year when there isn't even room on the top six is a little unrealsitic IMO

Heck even I'm curious to see this guy play , considering the only talk in the hockey world about him , is on this board .

I say these things after following every article I could find about him over the last year or more. Big things are expected for Avtsin in Russia and they have been watching him play for a few years. So even though I only see clips of his play so I will defer to those that have compared him to Ovechkin and expect great things as they do.

Good enough to dominate play in rookie camp.Day1.

Your previous statment was fine. This kid is expected to play top 6. If he mets expectation is another thing. And yes he is underrated because he was a late/mid draft pick and he seems to have a lot of things going his way - talent, size...................

Hell, this kid may have the most top end skills off all the forward prospects.

Hamilton to start the year.

That's what training camps are for to evaluate the prospects and see where it will be most beneficial to the players development to play. I believe it was established that he has a pretty good ability to speak English, so getting used to playing in smaller arenas will be the biggest hurdle for him to cross. This could be accomplished in the AHL or the NHL depending on his skill level, it sounds like his time would be better spent with the Habs with his skill.

I don't know. We haven't really seen his skill... Only read about it. I would be shocked if he had the talent level to make the NHL this season, especially so if it were straight out of camp. I fully expect that he will be starting the year in Hamilton. We are already chockablock full of forwards, with room for maybe one prospect to make the team. I don't expect that will be Alex.

Someone has a position to fill if Eller is injured, it wouldn't surprise me to see Avtsin take that spot.

But how serious is Eller's injury? I thought it was a minor injury and that he would be ready for the regular camp later this month. Even if it were more serious I cannot imagine someone like Ben Maxwell or Max Pacioretty being over-looked in favor of Alex unless he has a mind-blowingly awesome camp. ;)

Apparently Avtsin compete level is off the chart so don't be surprised at what he can accomplish.

What article/ Video/ report did you see or read that stated that this kid was ready for the NHL.

Let's see what he can do in training camp before creating expectations. Odds are that he should be going to the AHL.

Eller is not hurt seriously. Pac is likely more ready than Avtsin, especially for 3rd line duty.

Even if Avtsin is NHL ready, he could still go to the A to mature and get to understand the NA game (small ice....)

Some players skill level will make it detrimental to send them to the AHL.

I think most GM's knew his skill level they just didn't trust the Russian factor.

Learning to play on smaller ice can be accomplished at the NHL level and when players have a high skill level some stay at the NHL to learn.
